Gui Caribe Crushes 21.87 LCM 50 Free Brazilian Junior Record (original) (raw)

2022 BRAZILIAN SUMMER CHAMPIONSHIPS

Yesterday Gui Caribe punched a lifetime best of 47.82 in the men’s junior 100m freestyle to clock the fastest time of the day at the 2022 Brazilian Summer Championships. Just 24 hours later, Caribe posted the quickest 50m freestyle of his young career.

Caribe hit the wall in a mark of 21.87 tonight, a new Brazilian Junior Record and championships record. The next closest swimmer was Gustavo Santos who clocked 22.40 while Matheus Pereira rounded out the top 3 in 22.84.

The senior final at this meet saw Victor Alcara grab gold in 22.27 meaning Caribe would have taken that final by just under half a second.

Entering this meet, Caribe’s personal best in this 50 free rested at the 22.34 logged at November’s Tennessee Invitational. However, with tonight’s performance, the teen now ranks as the #1 swimmer in the world this season, dethroning American David Curtiss who races for NC State.

Caribe is currently training at the University of Tennessee, where he is a freshman. He currently ranks 2nd in the NCAA in the 100 yard free behind only his sophomore teammate Jordan Crooks.
