Josh Liendo of Florida and Leon Marchand of Arizona State are now the #2 and #3 performers of all-time in the SCY 100 freestyle.
Liendo swam a 42.20 to win the individual event on the final night of 2024 Men’s NCAAs while Marchand led off Arizona State’s 400 free relay that went on to set an NCAA record. Both swimmers sit only behind Caeleb Dressel who holds the NCAA and American records in a 39.90 from 2018 NCAAs.
All-Time Top 7 Performers Men’s SCY 100 Free
- Caeleb Dressel 39.90 (2018)
- Josh Liendo 40.20 (2024)
- Leon Marchand 40.28 (2024)
- Jordan Crooks 40.39 (2024)
- Gui Caribe 40.55 (2024)
- Jack Alexy 40.59 (2024)
- Chris Guiliano 40.62 (2024)
Not only did Liendo and Marchand make history today but Tennessee’s Jordan Crooks and Gui Caribe did as well becoming the #4 and #5 performers of all-time. Like Marchand, Crooks swam a 40.39 to lead off tonight’s relay. Caribe swam a 40.55 in finals of the individual 100 free to finish 2nd behind Liendo.
Cal’s Jack Alexy became the #6 performer all time today with a 40.59 to finish behind Liendo and Caribe in finals.
The 100 freestyle has had a massive progression this year. Last year it took a 40.28 to win the individual event at NCAAs (Liendo won the event) but 2nd was a 40.92 from Alexy. Tonight, the top five finishers in the individual 100 free were all under the 40.92 mark. Then, the relay had four sub-41 lead offs including Marchand’s 40.28 and Crooks’s 40.39.
