Thiago Pereira to take on 8 different events at Pan American Games (original) (raw)

BestSwimming.br is reporting that Brazilian swimmer Thiago Pereira will take on a full event load at this summer’s Pan American Games, with 5 individual events and 3 relays.

Pereira leads all Brazilian swimmers with 8 entries, planning to swim the 100 back, 100 fly, 200 breast, 200 IM and 400 IM, plus all three relay races.

That means over the 5-day meet, Pereira will be doubling up nearly everyday, though his events fall nicely enough that he’ll never have to swim three events in a single session.

Here’s a look at what Pereira’s day-by-day schedule will look like:

Tuesday, July 14

4×100 free relay

Wednesday, July 15

200 breast
4×200 free relay

Thursday, July 16

400 IM
100 fly

Friday, July 17

100 back

Saturday, July 18

200 IM
4×100 medley relay

That aggressive lineup should allow Pereira an opportunity to add to his total medal haul at the Pan American Games. The 29-year-old is the winningest Brazilian athlete in any sport at Pan Ams, holding 12 total gold medals in his two Pan Am appearances.

Pereira will be competing in the Charlotte Pro Swim Series next week, where his lineup will be much lighter. The Brazilian is only entered in 4 races, the 200 breast, 200 IM, 400 IM and 100 fly. He may be adding to that, though, as Brazil has entered relays in the men’s 4×100 free, 4×200 free and 4×100 medley relay events. Pereira seems a possibility to compete on at least one or more of those relay teams.
