[ **mood** | annoyed ] Does anyone know what the Age Group figures / figure groups are? I'm writing my ScriptFrenzy about synchronized swimming, but the Internet is being less than helpful...

Hey guys, I'm coaching a tier 3 duet this year and I'm having a lot of trouble finding music for them. Their really good swimmers and I'm looking for something that would be really fun and we could just be silly with. If anyone had any ideas that would be awesome! Thanks!!

Ideas? [03 Oct 2006|10:36pm]
Hey, I'm desperately in need of some inspiration!I need to have music for a senior technical solo soon, and I have no ideas. Not good! I'm currently going through all my CDs hoping something'll stand out, but no luck so far.So can any of you please give me a hand? I'd preferably like something instrumental and relatively fast, but any speed would be fine! Thankyou!

Synchro in the news: I competed in the Gay Games in Chicago last month (it was the most fun meet I have EVER been to in my 15 years in the sport) and we competed against this wonderful team from San Fransisco. They told us that they were invited to perform an exhibition at FINA World Masters next week at Stanford University, and when FINA got a hold of that information they told them they weren't allowed because there are men on the team. There's a story about it on msn.com: click hereSpeaking of FINA Masters, anybody going? My duet partner and I were planning to go earlier in the year, but we just don't have the money :( We're hoping for Sydney in 2008!

[ **mood** | cheerful ] Wow, this is weird that is stumbled upon this livejournal. My name is Jana. I'm a retired synchronized swimmer from PEI Canada. My club is the Charlottetown Naiads. I swam for ten years, two at the national level and now after I was in a car accident two years ago that forced me to retire because of injuries, I swim Masters ( recreational ) and coach. I just though I would introduce myself, I've been looking for communities like this for years. Where does everyone else swim with??

[ **mood** | accomplished ] Hey girls. Awesome job in Seattle last week, I was really impressed! Our team defiantly peaked there and we were really happy about our swim, despite the nerves of going first. We were excited to be in first for those 4 min while team 2 was swimming, haha :). I was surprised to see how much more competitive the sport, as a whole, has gotten. There were way more than the regular a few spectacular teams! Maybe we should add an extra practice or three :P. Anyways, Enjoy the summer and hope to see you all next year.

Speaking of Age Group Nationals...who's going?I'm really excited because I'm going as a chaperone for a local team! I haven't been to Age Groups in a few years (since I was IN Age Groups...so 2001?) and I never got to go to Seattle. Age Groups was held there the year before I started going to Nationals (95? 96 was Washington DC I believe) and the year after I "graduated" out of 18-19. So even if I'm not competing, I'm excited to go. I'm pretty sure I'm the only Masters swimmer in the community, but it never hurts to ask: Any new Masters here? I don't know how much the rest of you know about Masters, but as the Age Group season winds down, Masters is getting started! My team normally just goes to Masters Nationals, but this year there's a few of us going to three meets. I'm taking a solo, duet and trio to the Gay Games which is being held in Chicago (where I just happen to live! Yay!), and my duet partner and I are going to Stanford to participate in FINA World Masters. It will be my first international competition and I am SO EXCITED! Also the previous poster asked for pictures...that's me in my icon at Masters Nationals in 2004 in my lovely pirate attire. (Yes, they let us wear an "eye patch" goggle! It was hilarious!)

Haha, anyways, there haven't been very many posts in the community so i decided to make one. If you guys have any pictures of you and your team, suits, or even music to share i'm sure everyone would get a kick out of seeing it!Good luck at Nationals girls!Much love,Julia (Hamden Heronettes) <333333( A picture of our 18-19 teamCollapse )**

I'm so glad I found you guys...I love synchro and needed somewhere to tell the sad story of the Marlin Swim Club of Maine South High School in Illinois.**( Our storyCollapse )**I don't think there is much that you can do to help us, but it is nice to know that there are other clubs out there (even clubs just starting *fingers crossed for you, keeumm*), that will still be around even when Marlin isn't.

Nationals @ Stanford! Wireless? [17 Mar 2006|05:01pm]
[ **mood** | excited ] Hey swimmers! My name is crystal and I am on the U of Mn synchro team. We are going to Stanford for nationals and I am trying to figure out the logistics of the pool area. Is there free parking, etc? Also, have any of you been to the Stanford pool area before and gotten wireless access?According to Stanford's page, there is wireless access at the pool, but I could only access it if a Stanford community member were to nominate me (http://www.stanford.edu/services/wirelessnet/visitors.html). Do any of you know anything about this or know a way around it?GOOD LUCK TO ALL SWIMMERS GOING TO NATIONALS!!!!!(see ya there!)*so excited*

Hello community! [30 Jan 2006|07:36pm]
I was so excited to find this community! I was on synchro when I was a teenager, then I started a Synchro team in my college town. We were the second registered YMCA in the state of Wisconsin, the first being my hometown YMCA. I recently moved out to Maryland, and the YMCA here is not interested in starting a synchro team. I'm so bummed! How can I prove that it would be a great addition to the aquatic program??

barracudas [12 Jan 2006|02:23pm]
I attended a judging update clinic in Chicago last Friday (run by the always excellent Ginny Jasontek who FABULOUSLY pulled it together at the last minute, YAY GINNY!!) and we had a looooong discussion about this year's changes made to the barracuda figure. In case you haven't heard about it, your feet are now supposed to submerged after the takedown as opposed to having your ankles out of the water. Also, they're being MUCH more lenient on pulling on the thrust than in the past. Now height is more important than thrusting completely straight. What do you guys think about this? I've personally got some issues with it. I LOVE the fact that we can submerge our feet before the thrust, that will definitely allow us to gain lots of height. I'm not so keen on the pulling bit. Maybe I'm just becoming old! But (oh man, here I go dating myself) when I started synchro, and even when I was in high school, you would get scored down for pulling your legs over your face. Pulling was almost seen as cheating to get better height, because it was not part of the definition of the figure. I realize that the sport is changing and that height is more important than it used to be, and that's a good thing. We should always be striving to be better than we were. I just don't think that allowing people to perform the figure against how it's stated in the rulebook and letting it slide is the right way to do that.Again, maybe I'm just old and outdated ;) Opinions? Also, there's a new figure this year called the Helicopter. Ginny was telling us that originally the Japanese named it and wanted to call it...SOFT CREAM, because it looks like an ice cream cone. LOL! How totally WRONG on all levels would that be? Swimmer #6, SOFT CREAM!

Anybody know if they're going to the Chicago clinic in January? I'll probably be helping out or demonstrating there too!
