_9:27 pm_[dumpuf]	Manuscript help Hi. I’m in a bit of a bind and up against a deadline- Is there anyone familiar with the correct manuscript notation / annotation for a story within a story in fictional writing?The section is multiple pages and I don’t want to use underline annotation for indicating italic type. Instead, I’m looking for alternate font notation or alternate formatting to indicate the passage, as it does occur amidst a scene involving both internal and external dialogue (i.e. italicized font will be present as well.) _10:23 pm_[celarania]	Okay, I'm Cel, I'm a self-taught artist with a passion for Victorian lit and such. Gothic horror is my favorite so I guess I want to get that intensity and story into my drawings. Okay, so I'm nowhere near there yet, but it's certainly what inspires me. I want to take my art to the next level with real critiques; so many place are just there for pats on the back without any actual advice. You can see my current drawing level at my da account. I know that it's pretty bare, there's not a lot that I've been able to scan (my old computer wouldn't work with my scanner), but I will be soon. One thing that I am planning is a comic, but I'm not going to post much of the plotline until later.( More PicturesCollapse )So yeah, hopefully I'll be able to join, I just want to improve before school starts next year. I know that I don't have a lot of finished work lately because of a very, very busy spring, but hopefully you'll let me join. I'm a sweetheart, but I will make legitimate critiques. I want to get harsher critiques myself so that I can improve without so much attachment.If I don't rate an invitation this time will you please let me know what I might be able to do to improve my odds next time? _1:42 pm_[timiathan]	Oops, I posted my intro friends-only, because I didn't want to expose the poems, but now I can't see it because I'm not a member of the community. So if there are any typos or anything, that's why I can't fix them, and I'm not sure whether or not I'll be getting comments emailed to me, so that might be why I haven't replied. [Actually I can't reply at all without being a member.]Also, if you don't see a post at all, please let me know.Edit: Since I pretty much just described my writing background on the intro post, let me also say that I'm really a nice guy, I swear! I'm a liberal pacifist, and just because I happen to be a moderator on poetryslamming, that doesn't mean I'm one of the mean ones...actually, I didn't even want to be a moderator, they just asked if I'd be an honorary one and I said sure. Oh and I'm not all like literature should be this or that, or poetry should be of a certain style -- it's all good, as long as it's good. I'll kiss your baby, vote for me! _10:01 pm_[elricmelnibone]	Introduction Hello, to those who know me and those who don't.Having just recently figured out how to accept invitations (thanks lit_girl!), I joined this community.Is there something I need to do to be considered for membership?I don't do much creative writing, but when I do, it seems to go well. I have most recently written and published a short work of creative non-fiction about the time I spent on strike with the Teamsters Union, when I worked for UPS unloading trucks overnight. It was read aloud at a university event, then I was asked for read it for a local radio arts program. That led to it's being used in a creative writing class, which I've been asked to guest lecture for a day.So I suppose I'll start with some questions. Have the creative writers here taught form? I don't consider myself a creative writer, and have nothing to offer by way of form, history, or development of the genre. I can talk about what I did in this piece, but I feel that's a little too mundane: yes, these are the places I revised, this is why, I toyed with this ending, etc.I write very little, and usually only when asked. (This piece was asked for by a friend who heard part of the story during a conversation and enjoyed it.) I am currently thinking about writing a one-act play about the worst first date I've been on, which is a favorite story of mine that my colleagues love to hear.Sorry to babble, but I just got finished with some work, and have baked cookies to relax with the Angels game.I would certainly appreciate the chance to run some writing by the members here, and may even ask for some advice on academic work, though I am leery about sharing that right now. You can find examples of my work at my website and some other works in hall_of_images. That journal, unlike the_surfacer, is friends-only, but I friended lit_girl, phasma_aphanes, fountaingirl, and solelo there.I love to be around creative people and be inspired by their energies and productivity, and I also enjoy being able to participate in the process of revision for others' work as well as my own. My main medium is fantasy (which is most of what appears on hall_of_images), but I also write poetry and mainstream short fiction, with occasional dabbling in creative nonfiction/memoir-type work, and I expect that most of what I'll bring to the table here will be from the latter three categories.On the personal front, I'm 22, bisexual, newly and happily married, living the immigrant's life in Canada, an Aquarius, and a Dog in the Chinese zodiac, but you could have gotten all that from my LJ userinfo, so instead, one telling detail.
