The study employed a quantitative approach using a longitudinal survey design. 48 English department students in the fourth and sixth semesters were selected as the sample of the research using a simple random sampling technique. The data were gained through the questionnaire distributed online and the interview in the face-to-face technique. Data have been analyzed descriptively and inferentially using SPSS Program version 21. The results showed that blended learning through Moodle-based Instruction and face-to-face learning in the classroom was a modern way of learning, convenient to learn English anywhere and anytime. According to most of the respondents, blended learning is the way to enhance their self-directed learning. The naissance of active learning where learners have to be active during the teaching learning process, has altered the subject and the center of the teaching learning processes from teachers to students. The teaching learning process is contextual and the emphasis is to fulfill learners’ needs. This teaching mode requires active participation of learners. The active learning mode requires creative teacher and effective teaching strategies so the teaching learning is able to transform knowledge into effective learning tasks and activities. The learning tasks and activities are designed to enable learners to experience the practical application of the knowledge they have learned. The design of instruction that motivates learners to learn is also presented and discussed.

One of the methods of natural resources utilization of LLNP was Ecotourism. Ecotourism was one of the approaches that kept in mind socio-economic aspects. This research used cross-sectional data and data collection was conducted from March until June 2018. The location of this research was the area of LLNP located in the administrative area of Sigi Regency. The research was conducted across eight villages in Sigi Regency; the number of respondents used was 284 households head (HH). Data collection and data analysis employed questionnaires and structural equation modeling (SEM) respectively. The focus of the discussion reflects two main points. The first relates to the effect of instruction in the use of language learning strategies prior to undertaking autonomous language learning in a self-access center on the improvement of the four language skills, and the second relates to the language learning strategies used in the self-access center where autonomous language learning takes place. The paper argues that language learning strategies instruction promotes autonomous language learning mode and contributes to the improvement of both the productive and the receptive skills. The aim of the study is to solve speaking problems of students in an EFL class using contextual i... more The aim of the study is to solve speaking problems of students in an EFL class using contextual internet-based instructional materials. The study employed Classroom Action Research design in a speaking class at an English Education Department at a university in Indonesia. The study consisted of two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The criterion of success was that ≥ 80% of the students must gain speaking score of ≥75. The results of cycle 1 revealed that less than 80% of the students achieved the criterion; consequently the revised plan for cycle 2 was implemented. The results of cycle 2 revealed that more than 80% of the students gained score ≥75 and therefore the cycle was stopped. The design and development process of the instructional materials are discussed and the steps in implementing teaching integrated reading and speaking in EFL teaching and learning (TIRS) are proposed.

A group of undergraduate EFL learners, consisting of 48, who has completed a Grammar Class, participated in the study. The 48 learners formed three different learner category levels; High, Moderate, and Low. The learners of the three different category levels filled in a semi-structured open-ended questionnaire and responded semi-structured interviews. The low category learners perceive that learning grammar through blended learning is meaningful but need more experiences in the utilization of online learning mode, and in-availability of the supporting tools; The moderate category learners perceive blended learning to provide them more study times and make them get used to the internet or online-based learning; and the high category learners perceive the implementation of blended learning as helpful, easier, flexible, and fun. The study aims at investigating the students' emotive reactions and confidence in doing English language tests and its implications for EFL learning. Forty-two students of the Department of English Education, University of Tadulako, Palu, Indonesia participated in the research. The students were programming Speaking Class in the Academic Year 2016/2017. Questionnaire items and focused group discussions were employed to produce the data needed. From the data analysis, it reveals that the use of language tests motivates the students in learning English despite the stressful situations they experience while they are sitting on the tests. Interestingly, the research findings show that the students are delightful in doing the tests. The students are most confident in speaking tests, but they are least confident in writing tests. The description and discussion of findings are based on the results of a longitudinal mixed-method research in teaching Speaking Classes in an English Education Department at University in Indonesia. A qualitative inquiry was implemented to map the de-motivating factors faced by the EFL learners and Classroom Action Research (CAR) design was conducted to improve speaking ability. The results of the study reveal that there are fifteen de-motivating factors that impede the improvement of the speaking ability. The results of the intervention during the CAR cycles, cycle 1 and 2, prove that the implementation of Interest Based Instructional Materials (IBIM) improves the speaking ability.
