Speak Life (original) (raw)

I don’t know what you are faced with today, but I know this… everyone is going through something. So many have loved ones in the hospital due to covid, or even lost one in this pandemic. Others are battling it right now and praying for a miracle. Financial issues are plaguing some people as they are not making enough to make ends meet and pay for everyday things, nonetheless unexpected expenses. Businesses are suffering, and service is subpar because of shorthanded work staff. Fear has gripped the hearts of so many, even in the church. The enemy is tormenting God’s people into believing there is not much hope for the world in its shape.

What is disheartening is to hear Christians speaking words of defeat, even posting concession speeches on social media. Rather than confront the powers of darkness (a defeated foe) and speak life to situations, we speak death.

Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” The message version of that verse says, “Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.”

When we continue to speak death, negativity, carnality, and faithless words into our situations, that is exactly what we receive. We wonder why it seems nothing is going right; we wonder why we can’t see to catch a break. We have been speaking things and eating the fruit of it in our lives. Life is already complicated; may we not add more to it by the way we communicate. Many say, “if it were not for bad luck, they would not have any luck at all.” Then they cannot figure why they can’t seem to catch a break. It is the words spoken.

We live and die by the words we speak, and they shape the world we live in. They have power. We eat the fruit of the good or poison of the bad. As people of God, the promises of God found in Holy Scripture should be the fruit we choose to eat (the word we speak by faith) no matter what situation lies before us. We should choose to speak life into our bodies when we are sick and finances when it looks like they have dried up and run out. We should be speakers of life when business slows down. We should speak life into our community and expect God to move upon our cities. We should be speakers of life over our children. Never telling them they will not amount to anything. But speaking life, hope, and words of faith over them and God’s ability to bless them. No matter what mistakes they have made or even if they have turned down the wrong road, making one bad decision after another, speak life. Your family may have been eating the fruit of the words you have said. Make sure they are words of faith, words of life and not death, fruit and not poison. So today, “you choose.”

Revelations 22:1-2 in the amplified bible says, “Then the angel showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb (Christ), in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month, and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.” Living in Christ as believers, we should have this river of life flowing in and through our lives. We ought to be bearers of fruit everywhere we go and in all that we do. Let us allow God to bring healing to every situation we go through personally and in the world in its entirety through us.

Our peace in chaos should cause others to pursue peace. So, likewise, our joy in the Lord in sorrowful times should cause others to seek to have that joy.

2nd Corinthians 1:4 says, “Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”

As we submit our lives to the Lord and allow Him to comfort us in trying times, may we speak words of life and not death and watch God work. You choose. Just something to think about.
