In this engaging book, James Arnt Aune examines how the rhetoric of the free market has become the everyday language of political debate in America and around the world. He illuminates the inner logic of free-market ideas, using rhetorical theory as an analytical tool.

Article II of the Constitution reads," No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President." Note that the phrase" at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution" is separated by a comma from the phrase preceding it.

The Jewish concepts of justice and argument potentially serve as a useful corrective to some current efforts by conservative Protestants to bring religion into the public sphere.

Scholarly conversations at their best may either: 1) advance our knowledge by testing falsifiable claims, or 2) clarify what is at stake in controversies over interpretations, values, and policies. Yet such conversations usually take place in a disciplinary context that is relatively opaque to outsiders.

This resistance does not, as unkind critics would suggest, stem from deconstruction's fundamental incoherence, but from deconstruction's insistence that philosophy is not a set of truths but rather a set of texts. There is no such thing as" pragmatism,"" idealism,"" realism," and such, but only writing that bears these labels.

We find that the key components of Manning&amp;amp;amp;#x27;s vernacular republicanism are: an aggressive use of the rhetoric of critique; the demand for transparency in public argument; the rejection of elite leadership; and the belief that decisions must be made in the interest of the common good.
