This study explores the role of Libraries and Librarians in the Corona-Virus pandemic era as obta... more This study explores the role of Libraries and Librarians in the Corona-Virus pandemic era as obtained in other parts of the world. This article found out that in most countries the Libraries were not exactly operational nor were they totally closed from services amidst the lockdown, but found out ways to deliver services to clienteles as all physical buildings were locked up, of which this was not the case in Nigeria where Libraries were totally locked down with no services rendered to her clienteles. This observation prompted the need for this research. In Nigeria, with the COVID-19 outbreak and the imposition of the lockdowns the Academic Libraries were basically locked up and Librarians were away from service. The article looks at how Librarians, especially Academic Librarians in Nigeria could prepare to render services to their clients in the wake of such outbreaks and lockdown(s) in the future, modelling on what was obtained in Libraries from other parts of the world. In the peak of the spread of COVID-19 all over the world, towns, cities and countries world over went on lockdown, Nigeria was on total lockdown, Nigerian universities and every level of schools were lockdown. The study highlights the role of University Librarians in this type of emergency situations which includes; raising awareness through public health education, providing support to medical staff, researchers, traditional services to regular Library patrons and providing links to useful resources like Open Access resources.

Th... more This study investigates the purpose of utilization of Electronic Information Resources (EIRs). The specific objectives of the study highlights: types, purpose, extent and level of satisfaction of 300 level Microbiology Students at University of Jos with the utilization of EIRs. A total of 72 respondents were used for the study. The data collection instrument was a self-designed questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency and simple percentages, which is represented on Tables, Pie and Bar charts. The major findings revealed that all the respondents have good knowledge of all the under listed EIRs availability but large number indicated internet resources and databases were the main type of e-information resources available for utilization in the university library. Also, majority utilize the e-resources for Assignment/Classwork. The extent of utilization of internet resources is very high by 300 level Microbiology students. The study offered recommendations as ways of enhancing maximum use of EIRs to achieve the educational goal and general information services to Microbiology Students in University of Jos Library.

It cuts across the primary, secondary and tertiary institutions. The reason for the laxity in library real time usage is the primary driving force that led to the research. The research method adopted for this study was longitudinal method to get the right place of the actual issues without official cover-ups where necessary. Secondary data were also used to buttress the position of the research. The population approached for the longitudinal method was randomly picked at the different levels of schools. Parents were also in place at some point to drive home the true intent they have about their children and the use of libraries. Findings revealed that seeming laxity of both undergraduate and graduate students' perception and attitude about the library is primarily because of the lacuna in their other levels of education before coming to the university. This served as a useful yard stick for the researchers developing workable recommendations that in their opinion will be of immense help to solving it.
