AUSTIN, Texas – No. 10 Texas Baseball crushed Baylor 13-4 to complete the series sweep at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Sunday. The Longhorns (30-13, 9-6) hit five home runs in the game for a total of 14 home runs on the series.

Ivan Melendez had an incredible game and went 3-for-4 adding two more home runs to his count for a total of 21 homers this season. Melendez had three runs scored and five RBI. For the weekend, Melendez hit four homers and drove in 10 runs.

Austin Todd went 3-for-4 with his first home run of the season, one RBI and four runs. Skyler Messinger went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer, while Murphy Stehly was 1-for-5 with a solo homer.

Baylor was the first to get on the board for the second consecutive game, scoring one in the first. The Longhorns came back quickly with three runs in the bottom of the first. After Todd singled through the left side, Melendez hit a two-run homer. Murphy Stehly followed suit with a solo home run of his own for a 3-1 lead.

Todd hammered his first home run of the season, his first since March of 2020 during the shortened season.

The Bears got one run back in the top of the third but the Longhorns responded with three more in the fourth to go up 5-2. Dylan Campbell reached on a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on a throwing error.

The Longhorns added two more runs to the board with a single up the middle by Melendez, scoring Todd and Douglas Hodo III.

To continue the home run streak, Skyler Messinger homered over left field, bringing Silas Ardoin across home plate.

Baylor tacked on two more runs in the sixth, one on a passed ball. On loaded bases, Luke Harrison was able to get a fly out to end the inning.

Melendez hit his second homer of the game and fourth of the series to add another run to the Texas lead in the sixth.

Texas scored three more runs in the eighth, on two bases loaded walks and a sacrifice fly by Campbell.

Lucas Gordon pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on five hits. Gordon struck out five batters and picked up his fourth win of the season. Aaron Nixon pitched the final 2 1/3 scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

The Longhorns will hit the road for a midweek game against UTRGV in Edinburg on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
