Willem van Amerongen

Hello, my name is Willem, I’m from the Netherlands and I am a lecturer in the English Department of Thammasat university in Bangkok, Thailand.I have two university degrees: a Master of Arts in English Language and Culture, and a Bachelor of Arts in British and American studies. My interests are English language, English literature, English pop culture, British and American history and British and American society. I have worked and travelled in South America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

In order to reach to a conclusion, literary works of Langston Hughes and Zora Neale Hurston were scrutinized. According to historians Henry Louis Gates Jr., and Houston Baker Jr., these two authors in particularly are important, because they formally experimented with one of the most expressive artistic forms in African-American culture, the blues. For this reason, special attention was given to evaluating in what ways African-American oral tradition appears in traditional blues lyrics, and in the performance of this music.
