This method uses the concept of inherent availability to ensure to what extent maximum availability can be extended. The application of the proposed methodology has finally been demonstrated to six unit textile weaving industry situated in northern India. A mathematical formulation of Chapman – Kolmogorov differential difference equations, determining its availability, has been developed. A numerical study has been carried forward to quickly analyze the availability of the system on the actual corrective maintenance data taken from this industry.

All the water quality parameters against which prescribed limits exist have been selected for inclusion in the indexing. Relative importance assigned to the General Parameters through expert opinion analysis by Pair-wise comparison technique and Sub-index (SIgp) was calculated through aggregated weighted root sum function. In case of heavy metals and pesticides, flexibility of using open ended lists of parameters had been introduced and maximum operator sub-indices were used. Transformation curves for each of the selected parameters were developed while using the water quality criteria and standards as the basis. In case of heavy metals and pesticide parameters, the transformation curves were developed for concentration ratios. Geometric mean of these sub-indices had been taken to obtain...

Process variables investigated were chromium concentration, pH, current density (or voltage) and treatment time, and the responses measured were chromium removal efficiency and energy consumption. Using the experimental results, the treatment process was modeled by response surface methodology (RSM) and by artificial neural network-genetic algorithm (ANN-GA). The optimum current density for energy efficient chromium removal was found to be 20–40 A/m2 for treatment time of 10 min. Current density beyond the optimum range had a cascading effect on chromium removal efficiency.

The set of experiments to be performed were found using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) of design expert software. The experimental results were analysed by the design expert software and the electrochemical treatment process was modelled. For the acrylic fibre applicator oil ...

As part of the management process, it is important to assess the baseline characteristics of the river basin environment so that sustainable development can be pursued. Over recent years a huge library of data mining algorithms has been developed to tackle a variety of data-rich environmental problems. Data mining is now becoming the most popular technique for handling huge amount of environmental or water quality data. Certain techniques such as Artificial Neural Networks, Clustering, Case-Based Reasoning and more recently Bayesian Decision Networks have found application in environmental modeling. In the current research study data mining technique, cluster analysis (CA) was applied to a large environmental data set of chemical and micro-biological indicators of river water quality. The study was carried out by using long-term water quality monitoring data of river Satluj. The results obtained allowed detect...
