_11:24 pm_[tommylanders] | how to draw out bed bugs (cheaply)? How can I draw out bed bugs, without actually sleeping in my room?I've had bed bugs in my bedroom, and I think I've gotten rid of them. I want to be sure they're gone, but I don't want to sleep in there to find out.I've been told about expensive monitors available at sites like The Bed Bug Shop. Those monitors cost hundreds of dollars, so I'm trying to find a method that's inexpensive or even free. So, is there a good way to draw them out, to see if any are still there, that doesn't cost a lot of money? _10:50 am_[ictoagh] | New To The Group 1) What is the biggest bug you've ever killed? Gotta be a millipede, google it they get to be kinda big.2) What is the strangest bug you've ever come across? I see so many that I'm not fazed by anything I come across anymore. 3) Share your scariest bug experience. Not really a scariest moment but pretty strange moment just the same. We had fumigated a house for termites when after about 3 days we got a call from the homeowner about a foul smell coming from under the house. Me and another tech went to check it out and it was a dead cat. Had to get it out and the guy I was with was having no part of it so I went under myself to get it. Grabbed it by it's tail and as I was dragging the cat it felt like it was getting lighter so I turned around and saw that the cat fell apart. Pretty gruesome with the cat stretched out over about 20 feet, all the maggots, and the stench. Wasn't much else to do except bury it and go on.A little bio: I'm a Service Manager for a medium sized Termite/Pest Control company. Licensed by the State of California with a Br: 2 (General Pest), and Br. 3 (Termite) Field Representative's License. Also have a Qualified Applicator's License issued by the California DPR (Department of Pesticide Regulation) category C Landscape MaintenanceJust found the group while plugging in interests so hopefully I might be able to help somebody sometime. _9:00 pm_[daria5324] | Bed bugs Hey all... I have a few questions for the group...A little less than a week ago, my boyfriend and I discovered we had bed bugs on our bedskirt. We threw it away immediately (in a dumpster far away from our apartment complex along with a few other things)and found a few in various parts of our bedroom. We had an inspector come out today, to look for them AND do a treatment. He sprayed and did whatever he could (I wasn't allowed to be in the apartment so I'm not sure what exactly he did). However tonight, we came home after all of this, to still find one LIVE bedbug under our dresser. So my question to all of you is, is this common? Should I be worried there are more? Did he not do a good job? And should I wait to put anything back in the bedroom???Thank you SO much in advance! Current Mood: frustrated(2 dead bugs | Splat!) |

_11:25 am_[vnsplshr] | New... and cockroaches 1. What is the biggest bug you've ever killed?Something was up on top of some insulation in the ceiling of my parents' basement. I whapped around up there with a broomstick, and I think I got it. I have no idea what it was. I never went after the remains. It looked damn big.2. What is the strangest/biggest bug you've ever come across?I saw some white, lumpy-bodied spiders in a tree once. Looked like mutant, multi-legged marshmallow balls.3. Share your scariest bug experience. This was the first place I've lived with roaches. I was battling 100% with the killing until one night that one got away. I knew it was in the room and it had me completely unnerved. Ruined my sleep... but I found it the next morning.-----------------------Roach question:Why is it that I can never find roaches when I look for them, but they love to either wait and/or die in the middle of my kitchen floor... so I find them when I get home? It's like they're presenting themselves for killing. The dead ones baffle me. How did they work up the strength to center themselves in the floor... just to fall over dead?(Splat!) |

_11:51 am_[overtupelo] | Not sure if this community is still active, but hoping for a little support.. So I just moved into this cute little house from 1902 in Georgia, and apparently with cute little old houses come cracks in the walls and to the outdoors...and cockroaches. I have such an intensely bad reaction to these insects that it's embarrassing. I went a few weeks without seeing any, but now it seems like it is more 'when' instead of 'if' in the bathroom. It makes me want to just take sleeping pills and go to bed really early just to avoid seeing them at night. I put some poison down two days ago, so I guess they're supposed to eat that and die. Does anyone know how long that is supposed to take? I also have a can of raid, but last night my friend sprayed one and it did not die (we think) it ran away. hopefully just to die somewhere else. I also have bay leaves all over the house because I read that those are a good deterrant.I hate feeling like this. has anyone gotten over a severe phobia? or gotten rid of bugs? I actually read that you can get a gecko and they'll run around and eat all the roaches...but I'm not sure how I feel about that either. argh. Current Mood: sad(3 dead bugs | Splat!) |

_6:11 am_[jet_loves_juu] | Hi, I'm Jet, a 19 year old from New York. And dear lord, do I hate spiders. During the summer, there is a new spider in my room about every three days. Like clockwork... kill, three days, new spider. It's nervewracking, to the point where I developed a system of scanning the room and ceiling of my bedroom AND the shower before coming in. Just to make sure. If a spider is on the ground, it isn't so bad, but once it's above the reach of my foot, my phobia kicks in. I sweat, get the hot and cold chills, I freeze in my tracks, and I shake. I've had the guts to kill two, maybe three spiders in my life. Glad to have found you all.1. What is the biggest bug you've ever killed?: A huge ass flying bug that bit me on the neck. I mean, it was HUGE. I still don't know what it was to this day.2. What is the strangest/biggest bug you've ever come across?: Those cricket/spider hybrids... ugggh3a. Share your scariest bug experience.: I had taken my favorite pair of jeans off the line in my backyard and threw them on under my nightgown. I ran back inside to find a matching shirt and was ready to head out the door, when I felt a searing hot pain by my right knee. After pounding on my leg frantically, I stripped infront of my Grandpa and Mother to my underwear and ran into my Grandmother's room crying and sobbing. After 15 minutes of sobbing and looking at my poor leg, I go back into the kitched and fearfully shake out my jeans. I find the smashed remains of a bumblebee that had come along for the ride. Why did it take the thing 10 minutes to sting and/or bite me? Arg.3b. I was in Manhattan in Penn Station ordering from a Blimpies. I walk forward and stand, taking a look at what was on the menu. My friend standing next to me clears her throat and looks down, which in turn causes me to look down too. Next to my foot was a 3 inch long cockaroach. I screamed and kicked it, then fell to my knees and cried. The blimpie lady and her manager (THE FUCKING PRICKS) laughed at me, and made fun of me when I went to pay for my food, by pointing and fake-screaming at the floor by my feet when there was nothing there. How professional... when they're the ones who have bugs running around their food establishment. (1 dead bug | Splat!) |

_8:02 pm_[bleedsincretic] | well, I have roaches - which isn't really the problem [they're not impossible to get rid of]... but I've had bedbugs for the past few months, took all the precautions, got rid of 3 mattresses, and nothing.I'm wondering if anyone has ever had to deal with bed bug infestation and if so roughly how much it cost them to get rid of it. I just have a room, bathroom, and closet. My carpet is infested despite rigorous cleaning, as are clothes. I can't sleep due to itching and wake up bitten everyday. These things have to go, along with either the babies or some kind of mite. Again, just wondering at the cost of extermination - and I have cats, which might affect the teartment. _9:07 pm_[imagines] | Spiders. ;_; I just killed about ten spiders that had taken up residence around my cat's litterbox. (Of all places! Spiders are idiots.) I, being horrifically afraid of the little bastards, put on thick gloves and got ready to do some spidey-hunting. I killed a few spiders... then killed some more... then realized they were all over the litterbox. So I very carefully carried the box to the bathroom, as I'd rather risk carrying spiders than have them run loose in my bedroom. After scooping all the litter out, I sprayed the box with hot water. When I flipped it over, there were several egg sacs along the edges. (eek.) Those would NOT come off when I sprayed them with the showerhead. I had to take them off with paper towels. At least all the spiders were small enough to go down the drain and DIE. Take THAT, minions of evil! Maybe now they'll think twice about weaving their webs around a freaking litterbox.I keep thinking I feel something crawling on me. Like the spiders are going to come after me for revenge or something. Gaaaah. Current Mood: cranky(1 dead bug | Splat!) |

_3:04 am_[the_ocean] | intro and dillema of the moment. Intro. 1. What is the biggest bug you've ever killed? although i'm so afraid of cockroaches, i'm not afraid to kill them. i'm a cockroach killing machine. and thank goodness they are the largest i've ever seen. i'd die of fright if i saw bigger. 2. What is the strangest/biggest bug you've ever come across? i rarely see beetles. so they're pretty strange to me. 3. Share your scariest bug experience. in the spring i regularly get chased around by bees, wasps, and butterflies. yes butterflies. those things are vicious! and they want me dead for some reason. it's pretty scary when you walk outside and those guys sense it and immediately attack! people think i'm crazy, but i swear the butterflies are from the devil! The Tick Problem. a couple months ago our dog had a tick. our vet said we didn't really need frontline unless we were picking off multiple ticks a day. just this past week we have been picking multiple ticks off a day. we take our dog out to do his business and when we bring him back in we pick through his fur to find all the ticks that got on him. he's covered in scabs from the ones we missed. i found one in the bed. i'm freaking out. i can't sleep. we're going to have a baby in october and i'm totally stressing out about getting rid of the ticks before then. we're also planning on moving. i don't want to take the ticks with us do you know if washing everything and vacuuming everything will help get rid of them? i'm soooooo freaked out! they must die. _12:57 pm_[hisprophet] | ok here's the scoop:I have roaches in my apartment. _the apartment has already been sprayed at the beginning of this month; I have to wait for another month to see if this was 'effective'._I have kittens._they eat a lot._I have discovered roaches trying to eat the kittens' food.I have been trying to put their food dish in the refrigerator when I cannot actually watch them eating. However, on days I work, I'm gone 9+ hours a day, and they must eat more frequently than that.Much poison is out of the question obviously, dont' want to hurt the wee ones.PLEASE some animal-friendly help with this problem: how can I leave [dry] cat food out for a considerable amount of time during the day [at least 9 hours] in a brightly sunlit room without roaches contaminating & eating it!?(8 dead bugs | Splat!) |

_10:08 pm_[equus07] | Do mice count? I mean hell, there was one in my gawd damned kitchen the other night. I was not pleased. I called the landlord, left a msg and waited for a return call. Nothing. So I called the next morning and left another msg. Nothing. I might have to get nasty. Then tonight after a very long and tiresome day I come home. I walk up the stairs to my apartment and what is on the step? A gawd damned roach. Apparently, baby roaches do not live in Philly. Only mega sized ones. Again, not pleased. I suffer from Entomophobia for christ sakes.I go to my apt, get the can and go spray for my life. I leave no chance for it to find its dirty and disease ridden ass into my apartment. Question: When an exterminator comes and sprays, what are the chances the vermin only finds their way from the hiding spots and out into the open as opposed to dying where I cant see them? Cause Id really like to have someone spray but if theyre just gonna come out into the open then denial is fine with me... Current Mood: crappy(4 dead bugs | Splat!) |

_12:24 pm_[deltamethrin] | I never knew a community like this existed. Like the subject line says, I never knew a community like this existed. Anyway, My names Ryan, Im 22 years old and I live in Poughkeepsie, NY. I am a professional pest control tech, or just an exterminator in Westchester County, NY. Anyway, I've been looking for a place to post my experiences for people who want to hear them. Anyway,1. What is the biggest bug you ever killed? The biggest individual bug I ever killed was a wolf spider about the size of a small frisbee. There wasnt even a nest or anything, I was called out there just to kill that one spider that took residence in a rich lady's attic. If we are talking swarms, the biggest swarm I've had to deal with were roaches in this apartment building in Ossining. This one kitchen had to have at least 3,000 roaches once I was done fogging the place. 2. What is the strangest bug you have come across?Probably the cicada killer wasps that are very common this time of the year. Imagine an armored wasp about half the size of a dollar bill with red eyes and the ability to come back to life after stomping on them repeatedly. The good news is that they only thing they attack are the cicadas.3. Share your scariest bug experience.I was treating a wasp nest within a wall, though I underestimated the size of the nest. As I was treating, the acid secreted by the wasp larva finally rotted the drywall enough to have the whole nest come crashing down on me, along with at least 500 wasps. If I wasnt wearing a bee suit, I swear to you I would be dead. Current Mood: accomplished(2 dead bugs | Splat!) |

_10:47 pm_[equus07] | Im new and Im scared and I hate bugs Thank goodness for this community. Finally people who will never laugh or stare in shock because of my fear.**1. What is the biggest bug you've ever killed?**I dont. I scream, run, jump up and down and get my Mom. I get Dad if Mom isnt fast enough. Then I moved three states away.. I get the neighbor now.Once when the neighbor was out for the night my Brand Spanking New can of RAID: Kills On Contact ( it really does ) did kill a large cockroach though.**2. What is the strangest/biggest bug you've ever come across?**Yeah, nothing too strange. Normal things. Once years ago I hornet got into our apartment. I locked myself in my room, called my Mom at work and made her leave to come kill it. **3. Share your scariest bug experience.**Just one? Well, Ive moved to the city. What does the city have? Roaches. My place isnt infested *knocks on wood* but far too often for my sanity have I been scared into jumping onto the center of my bed, spraying the perimeter and crying myself to sleep because a cockroach the length of a sponge has just run across my floor and then did a back-flip into my SHOE closet. I wore the same pair of shoes for a month and half before I went back to the closet. I sprayed but never saw the death. For the following week I didnt walk on my floor. I stood on my bed, hopped onto the chair and leaped in the bathroom. I left the house everyday.Just thinking about this makes my nervous.I dont just walk into my apartment anymore. I open the door and do a sweep with my eyes to check for creatures; then I enter the room. Oh just a lil info about my phobia, Im scared of butterflies and ladybugs also. I once saw a praying mantis outside our old apartment door. It took my mom ten minutes to get me to run past it into the house. Crickets are the devil. Those legs and the nerve to jump. My RAID sits on my computer desk ( where I am at all times ) or on my bedside table. I have a backup next to the kitchen sink. Current Mood: nervous(4 dead bugs | Splat!) |

_2:14 pm_[hisprophet] | I'm new.1. _What is the biggest bug you've ever killed?_I'm not sure, and I don't think I want to know. 2. _What is the strangest/biggest bug you've ever come across?_Used to have tarantulas as a pet when I was a small girl. I remember them being very nice, slow creatures, and I was surprised at how not gross and not scary they were. In fact, I used to be fine with bugs until....3. _Share your scariest bug experience._I've just moved into a new apartment. That's right folks - ROACHES. They're german, they're nasty, and I'm scared to death. I've contacted the landlord and it's taking a loong time to get the spray man over, and it sounds like you don't get rid of them, you sustain their growth - if you're lucky, and if your neighbors don't have a roach farm in their own home.My shower is their nightclub, and the bathroom is the only place I've seen them so far. I keep all food and water in the fridge, no matter what, and showers tend to be an hour long procedure of killing cockroaches and then trying not to cry while finally taking the shower, eyeing the drain and imagining them running up in thousands. _12:53 am_[mauvefox] | Maybe Our Problems Will Solve Themselves... A black widow living under our sink has succeeded in capturing and killing a much larger wolf spider which was apparently preparing to terrorize the region. The wolf spider is shriveled and suspended from her web...I'm applauding the widow's David-versus-Goliath-esque victory because wolf spiders serioulsly gimme the creeps. We're moving out soon. The bugs can deal with themselves until then. (Splat!) |
