In a statement released on July 14, 2024, Jones’ family confirmed his death — which occurred at his home in New Orleans.
“We are deeply saddened to share that Jacoby Jones, a beloved former Ravens football player from New Orleans and a proud graduate of a historically Black college, has passed away at the age of 40,” read the family’s statement. “We want to express our gratitude for all the kind thoughts and support you have shown us during this challenging time. Your ongoing support and respecting our privacy means a lot to us.”

Jacoby Jones had a remarkable career in the NFL, playing nine seasons with five teams. His most notable stints were with the Houston Texans, the Baltimore Ravens, and the San Diego Chargers. After playing college football at Lane College, the Houston Texans drafted Jones in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He quickly gained recognition for his exceptional speed and agility, establishing himself as one of the league’s premier return specialists.
Jones is best remembered for his standout performance in Super Bowl XLVII, where he played a pivotal role in the Baltimore Ravens’ victory over the San Francisco 49ers. During that game, Jones made history with a 109-yard kickoff return touchdown, setting the record for the longest play in Super Bowl history. He also caught a 56-yard touchdown pass, helping the Ravens secure their second Super Bowl title.
