Last year I found myself rolling my eyes at people making homemade almond milk. I mean.. who has the time for that, right?
Well… I’m just gonna say it. Don’t knock it til ya try it friends.
Homemade Almond Milk is SO good.
Ingredients for homemade almond milk:
In order to make whole30 almond milk – you only need:
- water
- almonds
- cinnamon and vanilla are optional!

How to make homemade almond milk:
Here’s how to make Whole30 Almond milk:
- You’re going to need to soak your almonds for at least 12 hours. Otherwise, they will not blend as nicely.
- Once almonds have soaked, drain/rinse
- Add to a blender with fresh filtered water.
- Blend on high for 2 minutes
- Strain through a nut milk bag + store in an airtight glass jar!
Tips for making homemade almond milk
- Make sure to really blend it! You don’t want to under-blend it and then have it be too chunky to strain. It should be relatively smooth when you pour it out of the blender. I really love my Vitamix blender. It’s awesome!
- Save the pulp! You can use it to make energy bites, dry it out for almond meal… there are lots of options! This post has a lot of good ideas. I’m working on perfecting a cracker recipe with the leftover pulp.. haven’t nailed it yet, but I’ll let you know when I do!
- Make sure to store it in an airtight container! I keep mine in a big mason jar.
- Shake before using/drinking. The milk can separate (which looks pretty gross) so make sure to shake it to combine it back together.
Substitutions for this recipe

Spices- You can omit the cinnamon or add ginger if you’d like more flavor
**Sweetener-**You can sweeten almond milk with maple syrup or a date, but it will not be Whole30 if you add maple syrup.
Vanilla- You can add in 1/2 a vanilla bean or unsweetened vanilla bean powder to get more vanilla flavor
How to store almond milk
It’s best to store your almond milk in an airtight glass jar. The almond milk will last 4-5 days in the refrigerator. (remember there are no preservatives!)
It may separate, but just shake to combine it again. If you’ve wondered if your almond milk has gone bad, simply smell it – you should be able to quickly tell!

Yes! Some almond milks are whole30 friendly. Not all of them are, as many have added sugar and non-Whole30 compliant ingredients.
Best Whole30 Almond Milks
Aldi – Yes, there are a few different almond milks from Aldi that are Whole30. The Friendly Farms Unsweetened Vanilla and Simply Nature Unsweetend are both compliant
Califia Farms also makes great almond milk. I love their Better Half instead of half and half. Their unsweetened almond milk and unsweetened vanilla almond milk are both compliant.
New Barn also makes compliant almond milk.
Blue Diamond’s Unsweetened Almond Milk is compliant.
NutPods, Malk, Elmhurst, and Three Trees also all make compliant almond milks.

Homemade Almond Milk
This Homemade Almond Milk is a delicious dairy-free, paleo, whole30 milk alternative. It's easy to make with only 3 simple ingredients.
Serves : 4 cups

1 cup almonds
4 cups filtered water
There are two options for soaking almonds.
Room Temperature Water: Soak almonds in 3 cups of filtered water for a minimum of 12 hours.
Hot Water: You can pour boiling water over almonds, soak for 20 minutes, strain and repeat process 3x (total of one hour) if you're in a hurry to make almond milk!Once soaked, drain and rinse almonds.
Add almonds and fresh filtered water in blender.
Blend on high for 2 minutes or until milk starts to look smooth.
Strain in a nut milk bag (linked above), squeezing as much milk out of the pulp as possible.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
