Hey NS people:

We're doing only Thursdays this semester. I plan on doing an ecology unit.

(Does anyone know where to get a metal chopsticks? Like 50 pairs or so?)

PS: Shiehan...we have to type the apps again...this time with two boxes, one for "returning" and one for "new". I'm half considering closing the NS priviledge to fifth graders...

SUGGESTIONS

1. Meeting at least once a month amongst us nine, probably lunchtime

2. set up "checkpoints" to make sure the kids have learned something. (or aks them what they want to learn)

3. make monthly reports on each kid in group's behavior. either for our own reference or to the parents, if extreme. (some kids in my group really need a good spanking.)

Natural Studies Club Update

From the last two sessions, I have decided that I like what I'm seeing...so, I'm going to go ask Mr. Chin if community service hours can be given to Natural Studies members. However, this does mean you will have to come regularly; keep your part of the deal, and I'll keep mine.

Oh yes, a few reminders. I spent time thinking up the questions at the end of each experiment. Please don't skip them...ASK them. While I know this isn't easy, try--make a small discussion and involve all of the little twerps, perhaps.
The packets I have given you can be ADDED TO. Please, if you see any material or experiment that pertains to your packet, please add it in and teach it! Since I had to prepare about 80% of the packets myself, it would be impossible to make all of them equally long or exhaustive. Two thumbs up for Frank, who added in a microscope diagram, a terms list, and the viewing of epithelial cells in his microscopy group.

If you need materials, ask around. If your materials cost you money, please obtain a receipt to give to Frank, our treasurer, who will reimburse you. We have around 1600 NT in our treasury, so start thinking up fundraising activities. If you need bottle or containers, ask me...my sister is president of HOPE.

Club meetings start in October. Meanwhile, please check TheCompostPile's earlier post to see which group you have been placed in. After you have determined which group you are in, please tell me so I can give you a packet. For those of you in the plant tour, IM me so I can give you info on the plant powerpoint, plant pictures we still need, and the plant sketchbook.
PS: Groups are subject to change, as we may get a huge number of kids.

Meeting times, Monday afterschool.

We need a second session...Shiehan can't do it if it's Wed (psych).

Please vote here for the second session. Remember, only after school, and on days that aren't monday and wed.
