Title: Ride Share
Author: passakiss
Rating: PG
Genre: Fiction
Prose or Poetry: Prose
Summary: A college student takes a road trip with a curious stranger.
Author's Notes: I found this short story hidden on my hard drive the other day and decided to fix it up a bit and post it on here. It still needs work - there definitely seems to be something missing, although I can't quite put my finger on what it is. Although that's sort of the whole point of the story, so maybe that's how it ought to be...hm...Concrit would clearly be appreciated. ;)

Age:
20 (turning 21 in less than 5 weeks)
Why did you join?:
I have been writing in some form or another since I was eight years old and more recently began expanding the scope and depth of it. I'm in my third year at the Georgia Institute of Technology which, if you're unfamiliar with the university, is extremely focused on engineering/science and I have a crippling dearth of fellow writers around me. This seemed like a good forum to get some much needed feedback on my writing.
Who is your favorite author?:
Philip Roth, Douglas Adams, Ranier Maria Rilke, Charles Bukowski --- I have so many, this is difficult to answer.
What is your favorite book series?:
Philip Pulman's "His Dark Materials," or George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" (coming to TV via HBO in April- get excited!) or Harry Potter
What is your favorite type of writing?:
Fiction, Poetry, Postmodern literature, Existential/Absurdist novels
What do you feel you need to improve on?: I am too close to my writing to be able to tell if it's good, especially with poetry. I have yet to take the leap of attempting to write fiction, so my blog at dontpostponejoy.tumblr.com contains mostly my ruminations on life. I need improvement on finding where to improve.
What type of writing do you want to pursue as a career?: I intend on applying to law school, so the technical side of writing is where my income will likely be derived. However I expect I'll be writing for myself throughout my time on Earth; I'm compelled to do so.

Comments: I actually wrote this poem for my girlfriend when we began to develop a relationship. I submitted the poem on a popular writing site (but I'm not sure if they're going to post it, to be honest, but at least I tried). However, I sent the poem to her and she said she actually wants to keep it forever in her inbox so she can look at it when she's down and be reminded that I love her very, very much.
Feel free to give concrit!

Name: Crystal Frost (or sometimes I call myself Christian Frost for some reason. I guess because when my writing actually does get out there I don't want some of the members of my family, especially my dad, to know I wrote it.)
Age: 20
Why did you join?: I actually saw an advert on it on wordpainting on Tumblr and thought I could make the community be more active by posting my crappy poems. Also to get constructive criticism on my original works so I can improve.
What made you want to be a writer?: Teachers actually always said I had a knack for writing ever since I was a child, but I actually HATED it back then. However, I still tried my best on the homework I was assigned and usually got very high marks. But at the age of 14, I had an extremely irrational fear to write again. I was scared to show my work to anyone because I badly feared criticism that I actually wrote down a 100 page long Word document that had ideas for a fanfic series I wanted to do (but I eventually abandoned it, and yes, I realize that fanfiction is not allowed so I won't post any of them here). Somehow, through all that writing for my fics, I outgrew my fear and began to submit my writings online. But I struggled with it and didn't enjoy what I did at all and took writing way too seriously. My writings weren't that good for about a year because I stressed so much about it until I realized that writing is an art, and with art you should have fun with your creations and be proud of what you created. When I began to enjoy writing more, I realized at that moment that my true calling was to be a writer. I learned so many years later that my teachers were right.
Who is your favorite author?: Neil Gaiman, Chuck Palahniuck, and Ursula K. LeGuin
What is your favorite book series?: The Earthsea series
What is your favorite type of writing?: Nonfiction and fantasy
What do you feel you need to improve on?: I want to get myself to write everyday and to read everyday so I can improve. I also need to improve on GETTING STARTED with writing. When I get into it, I can actually write for nearly 5 hours. It's just getting started and getting into the flow that's hard with me. Also I need to make more original short stories, but I actually had an original novel for NaNo and it came out horrible. I don't think I'm ever going to participate in NaNoWriMo again because I just don't believe I can come up with a good novel in the course of a month.
What type of writing do you want to pursue as a career?: I actually want to try all sorts of genres and make all kinds of original stories, spanning from fantasy and sci-fi to regular drama non-fiction or humor stories. If I do get published someday and my stories are worth some merit, I also want to write an autobiography about my struggles with my mental illness.
Unfortunately, I don't have many good original stories, so I guess submitting some poems later will do.
