_10:33 pm_[amis_world] | Silly Ideas/Worries You Had As a Kid Growing up, I'm sure most of us had our fears and worries. I'm also pretty sure that now, looking back, many of them were pretty silly. What worries, fears, ideas, did you all have as a kid, that you realize now were pretty ridiculous??I know that when I was a little kid, I used to get scared thinking that I could be arrested by the police if once in a while, I forgot to brush my teeth, or put (or keep) my seatbelt on while in the car.I remember as a kid sitting on the top steps of our stairs in the morning, while the rest of my family were getting ready for work/school and looking down at our front door, being afraid that the police would come busting through the door and take me away just because I had eaten something the night before, after I'd already brushed my teeth, and then fallen asleep without brushing again. Or because I'd forgotten to brush my teeth altogether. I still remember trying to come up with bargains in my mind, like I would promise to always remember to brush my teeth, so that the cops wouldn't come.I guess I was a weird kid :PWhat silly ideas did all of you have growing up?? _2:58 pm_[amis_world] | Hi! The other day, I was watching "American Inventor" and I got to thinking and remembering about a couple books that I really, REALLY loved as a child. But unfortunately, I think that over the years, they may have gotten lost or accidentally thrown out or given away by my parents, and for some reason, I can NOT seem to remember either the title or name of the author/authors, so even though I want to re-purchase them, I am having a REALLY hard time locating them, and I am hoping that maybe someone on here has these books and/or knows the title and/or the name of the author or authors and can help me out. The first book was a big children's soft-cover paperback book (I think it was at least a couple hundred pages) about pet care. It had chapters/sections for each kind of pet, from the usual (dogs, cats, fish, etc.) to the unusual (exotic animals, reptiles, rodents, etc.) It was illustrated but the pictures were not actual photos, but cartoons. The book was about the different aspects of pet care, including feeding, training, medical issues, etc, and dealt with nearly all kinds of pets. The second book was a big children's joke book, but it also had a section for inventions that "you wish existed" Mostly it was a joke/riddle book. But it had this chapter for crazy inventions. If anyone can help me remember and/or find these books from the 1980's-1990's, I'd really appreciate it.Thanks! Current Mood: curious (2 Comments |Comment on this) |

_7:07 am_[carrie_alden] | Were you a fan of Cherie Bennett's Sunset Island series? If so, come join the new -- and seemingly only -- sunset_island community on LiveJournal!Sunset Island is a series of young adult fiction books written in the early and mid 1990s by Cherie Bennett. The books, of which approximately 35 were published, focus on the lives of three main characters -- Carrie Alden, Samantha Bridges, and Emma Cresswell -- who are college students spending their summers as au pairs on the luxury resort island of Sunset Island in Maine. The books detail the highs and lows of situations that Carrie, Sam, and Emma face involving families, friends, the characters' employers, and the guys they meet on the island.Although the book series is no longer being continued, I remember how much I loved reading Cherie's books, and from what I remember, she had an active fan base of "Sunset Sisters." So, if there are any of you Sunset Sisters out there, please join and post about anything you'd like related to the Sunset books!(Cross-posted.) (2 Comments |Comment on this) |

_3:53 am_[weetod_shoosies] | friend me. im insane. i promise."never again will i buy one of those rotten eggs of doom"with that said, i am here today to warn you of the dangers of one of america's favorite mushy substances, silly putty. it seems harmless, but you're wrong, as usual. take this warning seriously; you'll thank me in the long run.we've all experienced the joys of silly putty - played with it, copied newspaper with it, blown bubbles in it, made imprints of its casing with it, eaten it, and shoved it up our nostrils. its just a small piece of our childhood, a morsel of semi-solidified goo housed in a colorful plastic egg. the thought of it probably brings a smile to your face and a tear to your eye, as you recall the days of old and their trips to toys r us, spanky's swell toys for swell kids, zany brainy...or wal-mart if you're not quite as fortunate as miss b. however, silly putty was sent to our innocent, bright-eyed, bushy-tailed children by satan himself. you see, satan was born with an unfortunate disease entitled "nucleospiralatosis." that translates to "complete lack of body hair" for all of you medical ignorami in the audience. satan emerged from the womb as a perfectly normal baby "frigmanatussis," translating to "baby that is bright red with horns." all frigmanatussi are born hairless; mother nature needs a couple weeks to finetune their "bunkastunko," "hair follicles of frigmanatussi." this would be a lot easier on the both of us if you would learn the technical "lingo," so i wouldn't have to disrupt my train of thought to enlighten you. that said, i shall continue...for his first few weeks as a frigmanatussis, satan appeared to be a happy, healthy, perfectly normal "lombinrestae," "male frigmanatussis." as the weeks went on, satan continued to grow, but his hair didn't. he didn't have a tuft anywhere on his little red body. in fact, satan never grew so much as one strand of hair. he was shunned by all the lombinrestae and mocked by all the "combinrestae," "frigmanatussis females." satan grew to be the most unhappy, evil organism ever to have graced our beautiful earth. naturally, satan developed an extreme, almost unhealthy, obsession with hair. he grew to hate it more than anything, even jesus.to make a long life short, at the age of thirty-one, satan stoned by the hair club for lombinrestae for publicly denouncing hair. he was sent to the fiery pit below the amber waves of grain, the purple mountains majesty, and the fruited plains - hell. no, i'm not talking about tijuana; i'm talking about actual hell.to all the jews in the audience - just pretend.satan overtook this inferno and pronounced himself "king of the damned." hell was very empty at this time in history, so satan was very bored. he sat on his throne of assualt weapons and wmd's brooding about how to punish the beings above him, inhabiting the amber waves of grain, the purple mountains majesty, and the fruited plains. he began to develop a sinister plan. however, this plan was developed very slowly, because obviously satan wasn't the brightest frigmanatussis. if he were, he would have sold his body to nair as their hairless success story.sorry, i got a bit sidetracked...back to the story. finally, at the peak of the roaring twenties, satan's fifty-seven years of intense brainstorming started to pay off. he began to see glimmers of a brilliant new substance, one to remove the hair of millions of beings. since it was the twenties and skirts were at their shortest, the amount of hell-bound beings was increasing exponentially. satan sent these sinners, he chose to call them "minions," to his state-of-the-art laboratory to begin mass production of this substance. however, all of the minions suffered from a disorder called "tradenfrinatus," which is caused by excessive head movements, as performed while dancing the charleston. as a result, production was a bit slower than satan had planned, about twenty-five years.then, in 1950, the world above shuddered and instinctively stroked their hair. unbeknownst to them, a man named adolf hitler cried out "i've done it!" and the first lump of putty was packaged. it was originally titled "hair today, gone tomorrow," but benito mussolini, being the brightest being in hell, thought that a sketchy substance called "hair today, gone tomorrow" wouldn't sell well. the substance was ready, but it needed a "cute and cuddly" name. all the inhabitants of hell were forced to sit on fiery mushrooms until someone came up with a name. eventually, everyone in hell was "affected" by the burning mushrooms. abraham lincoln, fantasizing about the civil war, managed to mumble "still need getty." stonewall jackson's ears perked up. he threw his prosthetic arm in the air and shouted "silly putty." the rest is history, as they say...silly putty is a dangerous, satanic goop. don't say i didn't warn you. _1:52 pm_[bite_my_lip] | To: Nickelodeon This petition is about having your company to release some DVDs from past shows. We have grown up with our favorite shows (You Can't Do That on Television, Double Dare, GUTS, Get the Picture, Salute your Shorts, Hey Dude, Fifteen, Clarissa Explains it All, The Secret World of Alex Mack, Roundhouse, Are you Afraid of the Dark, and a host of others). Now, our childhood shows are gone, and that's why I'm establishing a petition to have you, Nickelodeon, to release some DVDs so we can look back on our shows that we watched when we were kids. The shows from the past on other networks have their DVDs out, so why not you all? Hopefully, there would be enough signatures to convince you all to make the right decision by have the old shows on DVD. Thank you for your considerarion. Sincerely, The Undersigned SIGN IT HERE!!!!!!!!!! (2 Comments |Comment on this) |
