Welcome to the House of Virgo (original) (raw)

So I just changed the bulbs on the porch light. Both of them burned out at the same time (apparently, as I don't remember there being only one bulb the other night). They're little 40 watt candelabra bulbs, you know, the ones with the skinny bases instead of fat ones like standard light bulbs. (Please forgive my complete and total lack of knowledge of the proper anatomical terminology of a light bulb.) Anyway, the metal bases were actually burned through...like the fixture got superheated or something. Needless to say, between this, and the conversation I had with a friend last night during which he suggested perhaps our amperage was ramped up just a bit, I am now slightly concerned about the electrical state of this place. Amy suggested this possibility a while back but I dismissed it...none of the bulbs have been replaced more than once yet and I just didn't think that was the problem.

We've had no less than eight bulbs burn out in the twelve-ish weeks we've been here. So far we've replaced two in my room (one in the main fixture and one in my lamp), one in the downstairs hallway (both in the downstairs hallway? now that I think about it I want to say I've been in that fixture twice), both in the porch light, one in the garage, and at least one in the kitchen. And both bulbs in that way-high-up fixture are still burned out because we don't have an extension ladder or the time to deal with it.

So...yeah. I'm now officially paranoid.
