UK holiday. [10 Oct 2012|10:24am]
Hello,I live in Australia and I hope to be coming to the UK for a holiday in April of 2014.My daughter, my friend and I will spend about 4 weeks there traveling from London and doing all the sites. We had hoped to spend some time in some cottages in some quiet places taking in the country side.I'd love to hear from anyone who might have some ideas of historical sites to visit while in the Lakes district. Things that aren't commonly known .to the average tourist. We are all into medieval re-enacting so it would be a real bonus to witness somereal historical stuff. Thanks for any help you can provide. We are so looking forward to seeing your wonderful place.

story requests [09 Mar 2009|10:29am]
Hi everyone, im part of a group of students at teeside uni and were trying to do a reconstruction film as part of our degree. We're hoping people here and n other communities may be able to provide us with uplifting or happy events/news/stories that we can reconstruct as part of a 5-7 minute film. We would prefer light hearted stories opposed to all the local crime stories we all know about already.thankyou to anybody who reads this post and even more thanks to anybody who can provide suggestions.

His current pics are:The Tyne Bridge in B&WThe Angel of the North in colourSunset on Derwent WaterHis website is called hellvellynsviews.com and can be found HERE and is a photography site dedicated to scenery in relation to the North East and Cumbrian landscapes.Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketThank you so much for responding.Chrisxxx

Durham reading group anyone? [14 Feb 2008|10:27pm]
I'm planning to start a reading group to meet monthly in pubs/cafes in Durham city centre. I'm trying to set up something for younger people (interest so far has been from people in their twenties), who can't easily get to other groups because of when they are timed. Currently thinking of meeting on a weekday evening or a Saturday afternoon. Books to be decided by members - not genre-specific. For more information e-mail sam.d@btinternet.com.

North Tyneside Libraries [09 Mar 2007|08:37am]
A little unusual I know, but I thought I'd mention it. Anyone can join North Tyneside libraries, there's no need for ID anymore. The libraries are currently running a promotion for new joiners (or those who recommend others to join if you're already a member). All you need to do is go to one of the libraries and join (or come with the person recommended) and then you get a Spread the Word collector card. With it you need to visit the library on 4 separate occasions and either borrow a book/DVD/CD or use the internet computers and you'll get a stamp. Complete the card before 25th March and get entered into adraw to win all sorts of prizes including XBox360, Plasma TV, laptop, ipod, book tokens (of course). It's a pretty good competition, but it does involve a small amount of work. I can't enter - so good luck to anyone who does.

Question: A friend and I are going to be attending the Masters Programme in creative writing at Newcastle Uni, she in the fiction strand, and myself in the poetry. Anyone else ever taken this course?Another question: Where should we stay? We've both spent considerable amount of time in the UK, but never on our own or for long periods at a time. We'll be staying a year and would prefer our own flat, or perhaps another roommate or two. We'd like to not stay in dorms. Where could we begin searching for this type of housing? Any websites you recommend?

Elderly computers in need of a good home [17 Jan 2007|11:06am]
Hi everyone, I just thought I'd draw your attention to this post in my personal journal, as I've got a number of old computers that are looking for a good home. If you think you might have a use for any of them, please leave a comment in my journal (they're in South Shields and if you want any you'll need to come and pick them up), if I don't get any takers then at some point they're going to be recycled or donated to a charity shop, if I can find one that wants them.Edit: Everything bar a large box of assorted PCI cards (most 10 years plus old) has gone, or at least been earmarked for somebody. :-)
