U’khand to open foreign language training centre for youth in Almora

Gairsain: Uttarakhand govt will open a foreign language training centre in Almora to prepare youth for overseas employment under the Mukhyamantri Kaushal Unnyan Evam Vaishvik Rozgar Yojna, skill development and employment minister Saurabh Bahuguna said in the state assembly on Friday.

A similar centre is already operating at Doon University in Dehradun.The scheme began in 2023, and so far 143 youth have received training, of whom 92 have secured jobs in countries such as Japan, Germany and Saudi Arabia. Bahuguna said their monthly salaries range from Rs 80,000 to Rs 1.3 lakh.At present, 541 candidates are undergoing training at the Doon University centre, where they are taught foreign languages including German, French and Spanish, along with English.

The training period ranges from eight to 10 months.The announcement followed questions by BJP MLA Suresh Gadia regarding employment of trained youth. Congress MLA Sumit Hridayesh and BJP MLA Diwan Singh Bisht requested that centres be opened in Haldwani and Almora, after which Bahuguna announced the Almora facility.The training cost is Rs 1.5 lakh. The state govt provides a 30% subsidy, while for the remaining Rs 1.2 lakh the govt offers a 70% subsidy on loan interest.

Food and lodging facilities are provided free of cost to trainees.BJP MLA Munna Singh Chauhan raised concerns about cases of fraud related to overseas job placements and asked what steps were being taken to protect youth.Bahuguna said 16 recruiting agencies were registered with the state and were also registered with the Union ministry of external affairs. He added that 30 people from Uttarakhand currently working in Saudi Arabia are safe. "We have spoken to them and all are safe," he said.
