Kharghar Road Rage Murder Case: One Accused Held, Key Accused at Large

Navi Mumbai: In a breakthrough in the murder case of IT company manager Shivkumar Sharma (45), a resident of Kharghar, in a

road rage incident

in Kharghar last week, the

Navi Mumbai crime branch

team arrested one accused by tracing his whereabouts near Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai on Monday. Sharma was fatally hit on his head with a helmet by one of the two bike-borne accused.
The arrested accused, Mohammad Rehan Ansari (22), was riding pillion on the bike with the key accused Faizan Shaikh (25), who is being traced, informed ACP (Crime) Ajay Landge. Ansari was produced before Panvel court on Tuesday, which remanded him to police custody.
Sunil Shinde, senior inspector of the crime branch central unit, informed that Ansari's mobile tower location was tracked after he switched on his mobile. However, on seeing Ansari being nabbed, Shaikh managed to speed away on his bik. Both the accused work as delivery boys for a food delivery app.
ACP (Crime) Ajay Landge said, "Eight teams of the crime branch and local police were formed to detect the murder case. We scanned footage from around 350 CCTV cameras across Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, and even Goa highway and Mumbai-Pune expressway to get vital leads of the accused. With the help of Mumbai police and using technical expertise, we nabbed one accused Ansari, from Mumbai on Monday night."

On Feb 2, the murder victim Sharma was riding his bike along the road from Utsav Chowk towards Central Park in Vashi. There was a severe traffic snarl when the duo waylaid Sharma, claiming that he was about to collide with their bike while overtaking. A verbal spat ensued between them, and it turned violent, causing fatal injury to Sharma.
ACP Landge said, "As per the victim Sharma, who came to the police station to lodge a complaint after being assaulted, the accused duo overtook his bike, after which Sharma questioned them for rash driving. Hence, a verbal spat ensued between them, and the scooty rider repeatedly hit Sharma's head with a helmet. As the crowd gathered due to the chaos, the duo sped away on their two-wheeler."
DCP (Zone-2) Prashant Mohite said, "A passerby had video recorded the incident on his mobile and shared it with Sharma for evidence to lodge a police complaint, but after reaching the police station, Sharma collapsed, and was rushed to a private hospital, where he was declared brought dead due to internal head injuries."
