On February 10, the All Indian Cine Workers Association strongly criticized the offensive remarks made on India’s Got Latent. Condemning host Samay Raina and YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia,
AICWA
stated that it does not support such content and emphasized the industry's stance against anything that promotes disrespect or disrupts societal harmony.
Boycotting the show, the association further said, “We call upon all actors, filmmakers, directors, and technicians to immediately cease any collaboration with individuals involved in this show, including host Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia. Henceforth, these individuals will receive no support from the Indian film industry.”
Singer B Praak, who was supposed to be a guest on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, announced on Instagram that he has decided not to participate. In a comment on an Instagram post, B Praak wrote, “I was about to go on Ranveer’s podcast but now i will not after his pathetic thinking and words dosto dekhlo yeh wohi hai. Who promotes Sanatan Dharam and talks about spirituality hats off to his thinking about parents and spoiling our Indian culture. Chose your Idols carefully.”
Several influential people like Thyrocare founder Dr A Velumani also criticised the comments by Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia. Taking to his X handle, Velumani wrote, “I repeat it is not comedy. It is vulgarity. Good it busted. Comedians Crossing all Limits of Decency. Do not laugh at disgusting content. #RanveerAllahbadia should be boycotted. Such channels should be banned.”
Popular YouTuber and fitness influencer Gaurav Taneja aka Flying Beast too reacted to the controversy and wrote on X, “Seems like #SamayRaina won’t stop until he gets all of YouTube India canceled.”
Post the controversy, Ranveer Allahabadia took to his Instagram handle to share a video. In the video, he apologised for his comment and said, “Comedy is not my forte. Just here to say sorry.” He added, “I promise to just get better. Have asked the makers of the video to remove the insensitive sections from the video.”
The controversy has led to multiple FIRs and summons. On Monday, Assam Police registered a case against Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, and others for promoting obscenity. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the news.
A complaint was also filed with the Mumbai Police Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, alleging that the show used abusive language and made obscene remarks about women.
Mumbai Police has reportedly summoned both Ranveer and Samay. While Ranveer issued a public apology, Samay has not yet commented on the controversy. Currently on a comedy tour in the USA, he recently performed in San Jose, California, and is scheduled for shows in Washington DC on February 13 and New Jersey on February 14.
The founder of CAREERS 360 defended Samay Raina’s show on LinkedIn, emphasizing that it was a paid, members-only comedy platform where audiences voluntarily subscribed. He argued that the content was neither hateful nor forced and reflected common street language. He also criticized state intervention, warning about its potential impact on artistic freedom.
Meanwhile, A group of Hindu nationalists associated with Sanskriti Bachao Manch staged a protest in Bhopal against the comedian and submitted a memorandum at TT Nagar police station, demanding that an FIR be registered. Chandra Shekhar Tiwari, President of Sanskriti Bachao Manch, said, "I don't want to make my mouth dirty by repeating that remark. India is known for its culture and civilisation. Those who try to erase that identity, the Sankriti Bacho Manch will not tolerate it. We are here to submit a memorandum to the police and demand an FIR should be registered against them."
Shiv Sena Member of Parliament (MP) Naresh Ganpat Mhaske also called for tougher regulations on social media and OTT platforms following the uproar over Allahbadia's offensive remarks. Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha, Mhaske stressed the need for stricter enforcement of existing guidelines and the introduction of new measures to curb obscenity and inflammatory content.
Speaking later, Mhaske acknowledged that while social media influencers have the right to express themselves, they must do so with respect for India's culture, history, traditions, and way of life. He warned that those who cross the line will inevitably face public backlash.
