Matthew walked in just in time to hear something large and breakable hitting the wall. He sighed, already on edge from the day he'd just had. "Charlie?" He called out, none to kindly.

"You fucking asshole," Charlie stomped into the room. "You fucking sodding shitting asshole."

"What the fuck." Matthew growled, defenses instantly raised. "Lower your goddamn voice, you-"

"No! No, I fucking won't," Charlie said, stalking toward him. "Not until you give me a fucking explanation for this." He thrust his hand out, and Matthew stared down at it and groaned.

Charlie could hear the alarm buzzing incessantly, forcing both Charlie and Matthew out of their deep sleep. Normally Charlie grudgingly acknowledged it, letting Matthew out of the bed before rolling over and falling asleep once more. But today Charlie was not in the mood to let the alarm get it's way.

He could hear Matthew yawning and sitting up and this wouldn't do. Charlie snaked hos arms around Matthew's waist and pulled him back down into the sleep warmed bed.

Matthew had warned Charlie that he was going to be late tonight, he had alot of things he had to do (none of which he bothered to go in detail about) tonight, and so Charlie had settled himself down to a nice, quiet and relaxing evening at home with Morrissey.

Dinner had come and gone (take out from the local chinese restaraunt) and as the clock's hand slowly moved around, Charlie feel under the hypnotizing glare of the TV, quickly falling into a deep sleep on the couch, waiting for Matthew to get home.

It was a rare thing for Matthew to have Sunday mornings off to lay around lazily in bed. Normally he had to go and take care of some bills or some gardening issue outside or something even more obscure like, tweaking the strings on his guitar. It was a rare Sunday morning indeed where Charlie could keep Matthew in bed past nine am.

So it came as a surprise to Charlie when he noticied the clock's little red numbers red half ten. Charlie purred softly, bowing his back so his chest pressed closer to Matthew who was holding on tightly around his chest.

There was a grumbled protest at being moved and Charlie just laughed, carding his fingers through Matthew's hair. This was a special day indeed.

Charlie was awoken from his lovely dream involving naked dancing girls and wine and a naked Matthew feeding him grapes from his own mouth, by the double pounding of wee little fists on doors. "Uncle Matthew! Uncle Charlie! Wake up it's Christmas!"

Charlie groaned at hearing the three high voices of his neices as well as the dulcet tones of Meg trying to explain to the girls that perhaps Matthew and Charlie were up late last night getting ready for Santa and perhaps were still asleep.

He tried to roll over but was stopped by the heavy sleeping form of his lover. "Wake up then Matthew. The bairns want their christmas." Charlie kissed matthew softly, the only way that Matthew would wake up without beheading the first person he saw.

Charlie finished putting the last bow on the last present to Matthew, taking extra care to curl the ribbon with the scissors as best he could-- the early presents all had shards as ribbons as Charlie hadn't quite gotten the hang of curling ribbon but by the end, the bright ribbons curled beautifully. Nodding happily, Charlie set the present aside and looked over the small mound, grabbing the presents in his arms, Charlie bundled them downstairs to the christmas tree, something that Matthew didn't want but Charlie had insisted, and laid them around the multitude of other presents under the tree, various things from Meg, Matthew's sister, Charlie's mother and even a few from Liam.

Charlie arranged the presents artfully, hiding a few of the very small presents in and out of the tree branches, a tradition with his family since he was little, and stood back to admire the happily twinkling tree, another thing Charlie had insisted on and Matthew had gotten tangled in, and sighed happily. The holidays were shaping up beautifully. It was Christmas Eve and the snow that was falling merrily outside ensured that Charlie would be getting a white Christmas this year.

Popping a bow on Morrissey's head, Charlie headed into the kitchen where, he knew, Matthew would be binging on thumbprints and fudge. "And you said Christmas was only for children." Charlie scoffed at Matthew, helping himself to the home made eggnog.

Charlie sat by the phone, his fingers ready to dial the numbers that were so very familar to him. It wasn't just the call that Charlie knew he was having trouble with, it was the reason for the call.

He never called his mother without a reason.

And this was a big reason.

He wanted to tell his mother about Matthew. Which was a big deal considering that she hadn't been notified of any of Charlie's conquests since he was 15. It was a rather large step to take, but Charlie wanted his mother to know.

Taking a deep breath, Charlie picked up the receiver and dialed the numbers. His mother's soft voice on the other end made him smile, as did her loud exclamation as she realised her youngest had finally realised what a phone was for and called his mother.

"Lord, it's been a while since I heard your voice Charlie. How are you?" Charlie smiled and leaned back against Matthew's headboard, his fingers playing with the phone cord as he chuckled softly.

"Oh you know, I'm well." Charlie could hear his mother hum a noncomittal reply.

"So, who's that good for nothing brother of yours? I haven't heard from him in some time." Charlie could hear the humour in her voice and laughed were appropriate.

"I don't really know either mum, haven't seen him in awhile. I've been out of town for a bit..." Charlie trailed off nervously, he was slowly approaching the reason for this phone call.

"Oh really love? Where've you been?"

"Oh I've been umm... up in Scotland. Staying with my--" Boyfriend? Lover? "--fiancee." Charlie gulped back the rest of what he was planning on saying, that certainly wasn't what he had meant to say.

"You're what Charles?"

"My-- he's really great Mum, honest. He- he- he really loves me..." Charlie finished lamely, hoping that this wouldn't be another one of his fool idea's and that his mother would not hang up on him, vowing never to speak to her younger son again.

"Oh, Charlie." His mum chuckled over the phone to Charlie's surprise and astonishment. "I should have known it was something like that when I realised it was you on the phone." His mum sighed happily into the receiver. "It's so good to hear your voice light and happy Charlie, I might have known you went and fell in love. So tell me about my future son-in-law."

Charlie grinned and began telling his mum about Matthew.

Charlie pulled his jacket on, checking his reflection in the mirror to make sure that he looked just right. His eyeliner was in place and smudged in just the right way and his hair was delightfully tossed, looking as if he just rolled out of the sack with Matthew. Charlie chuckled as he fixed the tie he had loosely tied around his neck. It was one of Matthew's most favourite silk ties, one that they had used a couple nights ago, just to make things more interesting.

Charlie hoped that Matthew would notice.

Twirling the ring around his finger again, Charlie smiled at his reflection in the mirror. It was one year to the day that Matthew had given him the ring, it was their anniversary of sorts, and Charlie knew Matthew wouldn't have remembered, but it wasn't something Charlie expected him to remember. But in any case, Charlie was taking Matthew out and treating him to a happy first anniversary.

Charlie's grin widened as he heard the door open and slam. Matthew was home. Charlie laughed as he heard Morrissey bark happily and, predictably, Matthew's own command to keep down and off of him.

Charlie grabbed the small present off the bureau and stuffed it into his pocket before sliding down the bannister. "Welcome home , love." Charlie dropped a kiss on Matthew's lips, before grabbing the keys from his hand. "Come on, got a surprise for you." Charlie grabbed Matthew's hand and began to pull him back out the door and to the car.
