Thanks to the skillful work of translators, readers can enjoy not only native language literary works but also masterpieces of foreign literature. Intercultural communication facilitates the exchange of worldviews and values.
The analysis of the use of lexical transformations proves the complexity of their use in the Ukrainian translation of Jojo Moyes' novel "Silver Bay". Most often, translators used generalization, tracing and modulation, less often - specification and compensation. In particular, the complex nature of translation transformations makes the translation more accurate and adequate. It is also worth noting that in most cases the use of lexical transformations is justified and contributes to the adequacy of literary translation.

It combines the features of artistic and scientific styles: science fiction works are characterized, on the one hand, by imaginative and expressive language, the use of various stylistic devices, and, on the other hand, by logical and reasoned presentation, as well as the wide use of terminological vocabulary.
The language of fiction is a special branch of terminology. Under the influence of technological innovations, terminological vocabulary is integrated into functional and stylistic varieties of the modern literature, which leads to the need to study new linguistic phenomena associated with the exit of specialized units beyond the language of science. When writers reproduce the characteristic features of modernity in fictional images, they cannot ignore the linguistic features of contemporary reality. Therefore, terminological vocabulary finds a wide and varied application in popular science and fiction prose works, particularly in the language of science fiction.
Science fiction (SF) is a popular literary genre, which is an extremely interesting phenomenon because it combines two functional styles of language – the language of science and the language of fiction. Given that there are no stylistic and genre limitations in such literature, its language undergoes constant change, which makes it difficult to translate such texts. In addition, science fiction texts are usually full of terminological units and non-equivalent vocabulary, including author's neologisms and quasi-references, which are quite a challenge to translate.
We identified a number of problematic issues that were not covered by the rules for translating terms in technical texts. This was mainly due to the fact that the means of expression inherent in the language of science in a literary text are changed, since their functions in different environments are different. Thus, on the basis of the study, the role of technical terms in science fiction literature and the difference in their functional meaning in scientific and technical and fiction texts were established.
At the lexical level, science fiction works are characterized by the use of terminology, a large number of original neologisms, and a specific system of proper names. Works of science fiction use both the common terminology of various branches of science and technology and neologisms created by the author of a particular work.

Works of science fiction use both the common terminology of various branches of science and technology and neologisms created by the author of a particular work.
Science fiction, like any other genre, has its own linguistic features. Authors use various means and techniques to reproduce the peculiarities of science and technology, to depict the relevant characters and other images. It is difficult to understand and interpret such vocabulary, especially separately from the work in which it is specified, because it is not used in everyday life. Among the linguistic features of science fiction are the use of terms, quasi-terms, quasi-realms, neologisms, and occasionalisms. In addition, the necessary ways to reproduce English terminology in the Ukrainian language were identified, such as: by equivalent in the target language, as well as by using various translation transformations to reproduce equivalent-free terms.
The translator should adhere to the characteristics set by the authors when writing their work, so that the work of SF in the target language does not have more scientific features than it was intended in the original and so that the elements of fantasy and creativity are not lost. These linguistic features of science fiction pose a considerable challenge for translation, as scientific terms are more informative and require accurate reproduction, and terms and authorial neologisms are responsible for the stylistic expressiveness of the work. If the translator simply omits all stylistic means, the translation will become too formal and uninteresting and will lose the peculiarities of the original literary text.
Therefore, scientific terms are most often translated using such translation transformations as equivalence, transcription, transliteration, loan translation, generalization, and specification.

On the material of T. S. Eliot's critical essays and his poetry the idea that literary and critical activity of the artist is usually a kind of self-interpretation is carried out. The paradigm of theoretical approaches towards the literature conforming to T. S. Eliot’s literary theory is offered.
T. S. Eliot's literary and critical theory is reconstructed, and the basic theories of poet’s criticism are analyzed: impersonal poetry, objective correlative, and literary tradition.
Eliot's poetic vision pulls back to encompass growing slices of humanity — from the close-up of the pathetic Prufrock, who knows there could be more to life but lacks the gumption to take his life into his own hands, to the Lothario and maiden characters of "Portrait of a Lady," in which the characters are too embedded in their shallowness to see with any objectivity, and finally the great landscape shot of The Waste Land illustrated profusely and ironically with snippets of Dante, Shakespeare, Baudelaire, Laforgue, John Webster, the Bible, and many others, and people with a cast of a million anonymous extras, hollow unthinking men, lost souls, vulgarians, drunks, slutty typists, and so on. The Waste Land has been called an epic in miniature because in its 440-something lines it captures the empty spirit and meaninglessness of existence.

Socio-cultural transformations that shape the model of the global world and change the Ukrainian landscape, the intensification of cross-cultural contacts, international relations, relations of social communities on different levels actualize the problem of communicative interaction. Globalization processes, which involve representatives of different cultures in the general development of civilization, the challenges of military conflicts, in particular the war of Ukrainian people against the Russian invasion, require an adequately constructed discourse. In such contexts, the concept of communication as a metadiscourse, that is, a discourse about the discourses of social interactions, acquires a new meaning.
