topstitch (original) (raw)
So basically, its a simple black pencil skirt I made from an old solid black mens Calvin Klein undershirt. Really easy to make... no machine needed. No real sewing experience needed either, just a whip-stitch will do (or if you're more advanced, a blanket or overcast stitch). Or if you have a machine- you'll be done in 10 minutes, haha.
I figured maybe other people may wanna try it- so...
Directions: You cut along the dashed lines on the t-shirt you want to use. Then you just sew up the "armpit" areas, you probably have to cut them on a softer angle first (I did- note the pink lines- sorry about the lil tutorial pic, its done really quick and messy lol), as some shirts have a hardcore point under the armpit. I also made simple foldover hems at the top (waistband) to make it look neater, but its not necessary if you like the unraveled edge look. This may not work on, erm, bigger girls (not that I'm skinny by any means... believe me) because since theres no elastic/zippers, you've gotta be pretty much the same size as the shirt, if ya get me. My hips keep it up just fine, and it hasn't stretched out and gotten nasty yet, like I thought would happen. It works best with shirts that are fitted, but not skinny or tight or somewhat sheer or with the dreaded "baby tees."
Anywho it came out awesome, my stitchery was a tad messy (it being 1:00 a.m. and all) but you really don't notice when its on. I kinda rushed it because I wasn't sure how it would come out and I wanted to finish it quick.
And thats that. I wanted to make some more, but I've been kinda busy. As soon as I do, I'll post them.
And thanks to Yoyo for making this community! So I can share all my silly handmade objects with the world lol<3
