✷About TreatiseCharm✷
Name: TreatiseCharm (Treatise:a written work dealing formally and systematically with a subject Charm:control or achieve by magic)
Race: Twinkle-Eyed Unicorn ponies (a race from G1 and descendants of the first unicorns)
Sex: Female
Age: Between Shining Armor and Twilight Velvet
Hometown: Canterlot
Currently Resides: Near Las Pegasus in a town called Hooveson
Special Talent: Following Instructions
Cutie Mark: A book with seven stars. Stars cutie marks run in her family. In TreatiseCharm’s family, having 7 stars in one's cutie mark is auspicious and extremely rare. Both Galaxy and TreatiseCharm have 7 stars in their cutie marks, because of this Galaxy trained TreatiseCharm as her magical heir.
Occupation: Librarian - TreatiseCharm works as a magical reference librarian. At work, she spends most of her time helping patrons study magic and re-discovering spells that are considered lost.
Strong Points & Flaws: If TreatiseCharm can read the spell she can cast it, on the other hoof she can only use levitation and teleportation without a text. TreatiseCharm’s special talent of following instructions is not limited to spells. With the assistance of well written instructions, TreatiseCharm can be a Jack of all trades. However, the Muses do not favor her. TreatiseCharm has high standards for her performance, and the performance of others. When these standards are not met she can sometimes be pushy (she gets this from Galaxy). If TreatiseCharm cannot find something she might spaz-out and is known to not eat or sleep until she finds what she is looking for. Treatie Sense!!!
Personality: Independent Thinker, Organized, Determined, and Sanguine (especially towards dark magic)
Hobbies: reading enchanted comics, storytelling, and researching new skills
Accessories: TreatiseCharm keeps the key to her library's arcane and dark magic room around her neck.
Family: TreatiseCharm is a distant descendant of Galaxy (from G1). Nevertheless, she calls Galaxy her aunt. Other family members TBA.
Poison Joke Effect: TreatiseCharm turns invisible (at times translucent) and is mistaken to be a ghost. The first time TreatiseCharm was effected by Poison Joke she thought she died and really was a ghost. TreatiseCharm's Poison Joke effect stems from her childhood fears of failing as Galaxy's magical heir and dying on the battlefield.
Treatie Sense: TreatiseCharm intuitively knows where spells are in archives even if she has never been to the location before.
Galaxy and TreatiseCharm Backstory: Galaxy is a legendary war hero, known for her magical ability on the battle field. There are rumors that Galaxy is older than Starswirl the Bearded caused by her mastery of age spells. Galaxy has waited many generations to find a magical heir (one to pass on all her spells to). Due to family tradition her heir must have the same number of stars on her cutie mark. TreatiseCharm is Galaxy's long waited heir. TreatiseCharm’s special talent is following instructions. If TreatiseCharm can read the spell she can cast it, however no matter how many times she performs the spell TreatiseCharm needs a text. Galaxy does not see this as a special talent, but some kind of mental block- a need to have a “Dumbo’s feather”. Galaxy is amazed at the high level spells that her niece can perform. In fact, TreatiseCharm was the only filly in Equestrian history to perform an age spell. However, if TreatiseCharm has to rely solely on books and scrolls she would only be a liability on the battlefield. Galaxy does not want to accept that her only heir shows more magical potential than Galaxy ever did, but may never follow in her hooves steps.
Cutie Mark Backstory: TreatiseCharm was the first in her class to get her cutie mark. Soon after TreatiseCharm’s class started reading, the teacher wrote a simple set of instructions on the board. TreatiseCharm was the first to complete the task and to her surprised she received her cutie mark. It was almost unheard of that such a young filly would get their cutie mark. However, at such a young age TreatiseCharm did not know what her cutie mark meant. Her classmates started guessing what her mark was for, but no it was not for reading, no it was not for writing, no it was not for making books… This lack of understanding worried and frustrated the other children. Soon, TreatiseCharm’s class mates teased her calling her book butt. A year went by and TreatiseCharm finally described her special talent as following instructions. It was an odd talent to say the least. (Two years after she got her cutie mark, TreatiseCharm became Galaxy's magical heir.) TreatiseCharm struggled with how best to use her special talent into her early adult hood.
TreatiseCharm's Q&A:
Q:Why the star freckles?
A:It is also a connection to G1. Milky Way, Baby Milky Way, Sunblossom, Baby Evening Star, and Twinkler are all G1 ponies that have star freckles.
Q:Why would TreatiseCharm be a liability on the battlefield?
A: Normally, scrolls and grimoires are only used on the battlefield for grand spells that can change the tides of war if permitted to be casted. Due to this any unicorn with a text is highly targeted by the opposition. Also TreatiseCharm could easily be rendered helpless by a simple elusion, blinding, or text altering spell.
Q: So what became of Galaxy’s and TreatiseCharm’s relationship?
A: That is a long story, but I will try to explain without writing a book.
Spell writing is like trying to write about an event by describing the experience via a detail report on the five senses' sensations. A difficult task to say the least. What makes spell writing even more of a challenge is if you experienced the event your mind would fill in any gaps in the text. Even if you casted the spell only once years ago your mind would fill in the gaps. This is because once you cast a spell you are imprinted with spell-memory. For example, let’s take the taste of your favorite food. If you forget to describe the texture of the food your mind will still recalls it when you read your text. Another problem with spell writing is many writers include names of other spells instead of describing those experiences correctly. This is like describing a taste simply as Starburst pink. If you ever ate a pack of Starbursts you would know how the pink ones taste. This is an acceptable method of spell writing, but if the spell that is simply refer to by name is not written down both spells maybe lost over time.
Due to the short falls of spell writing, it is custom to train a magical heir. That way even if the spell is not written down correctly a living pony will carry on the knowledge.
Galaxy struggled with seeing TreatiseCharm able to cast high level spells, but never once gain spell-memory. However, TreatiseCharm had a real gift of locating written copies of any spell. It’s almost like she intuitively knows where spells are in archives even if she has never been to the location before. TreatiseCharm has been able to re-discover spells that were considered lost by finding the lost spells that were included in text of the larger spell. It was after watching TreatiseCharm re-discover a spell to charm water sprits that Galaxy realized that TreatiseCharm was the ultimate proofreader for spells. If TreatiseCharm could cast the spell it had to be written correctly, because of TreatiseCharm’s lack of a spell-memory. Also TreatiseCharm is a wonderful assistance in the written process because she can locate and write out spells included in the spell being written. Now, Galaxy see TreatiseCharm as an incredibly talented niece that was gifted with a very special talent. These days, TreatiseCharm and Galaxy meet once a month to work together in writing Galaxy’s spells down.
Q: Can you tell us more about TreatiseCharm’s key?
A: That is also a long story… Here we go:
Dark magic is not evil itself and can be used for good. On the other hoof, dark magic does use negative experiences in its spell casting. This also means that the spell-memory is negative. It is the negative spell-memory that taints a pony’s soul not the casting of the dark magic itself. TreatiseCharm’s lack of spell-memory means dark magic cannot taint her soul. Therefore, TreatiseCharm is one of a few keepers-of-dark-magic that Equestria can trust.
TreatiseCharm’s task of re-discovering spells that are considered lost requires access to the largest arcane magic archive possible. Also due to her Treatie Sense, TreatiseCharm is an ideal librarian for a massive spell library. Princess Celestia wanted to foster TreatiseCharm and encouraged her to continue to work with spells. Thus, Princess Celestia built TreatiseCharm’s library (library name TBD) denounce to TreatiseCharm. While the library was being built TreatiseCharm went to college and became a librarian. At graduation, like everpony working for Equestria, TreatiseCharm was given her job assignment by Princess Celestia.
The library's most impressive feature is the arcane and dark magic room. It is the largest archive of dark magic and second largest collection of arcane magic in Equestria. TreatiseCharm carries the only key to this room around her neck.
The library is protected by a village of traditional warrior Pegasus. This village also protects Los Pegasus. Thus, the library’s location.
Q: If TreatiseCharm does not have any kind of spell-memory how does she perform levitation and teleportation without a text?
A: TreatiseCharm performs these spell via genetic memory. This means she inherited instincts on how to perform levitation and teleportation. Most unicorns gain levitation via genetic memory. Inheriting spells are sometimes seen in non-unicorns too. Another example of a pony inheriting spells would be Cadence’s love spells that she performed when she was still a Pegasus.
