treatmenthorror (original) (raw)

This is while I was in the adolescent inpatient in McLean Hospital. First off, I shouldn't have been in the program to begin with because at the time I was a legal adult, which pissed me off. I was getting sick and tired of teenage drama but when this happened it just completely made me so angry for people's stupid immaturity and ignorance because of someone being different.

There was a girl there named Paula, she was an 15-16 year old girl diagnosed with Asbergers Syndrome which is a form of Autism. I liked her personally, she was a sweet girl, just very socially distant. She never hurt anyone never did anything wrong, so what this group of girls did to her, she never deserved at all. Basically there was a group of two-three girls who decided they were going to fuck with her. What I remember them doing, which all of the rest of the ward, including myself was unaware of them doing until AFTER Paula was discharged was the following:

1. The basically tore up and basically completely damaged irreversably to the point of nonrecognition Paula's childhood toy which I believe she had owned since she was 4 years old. They removed all the hair off it and did a bunch of horrible things to it, I believe they even ripped off the toys head and left it on her bed for her to see basically she cried.

and the one I remember the most and probably the worst thing I've EVER heard someone do to someone else in a ward

2. They put powdered detergent from the laundry room in her toothpaste, shampoo, and body wash. Paula wasn't informed about this by the staff members till AFTER she was discharged, apparently the bleach was put into her stuff right before she left so she had to be sent to the ER with her parents the SECOND she got home to make sure she was okay.

I was pissed, I really liked Paula and she did NOTHING to deserve this from a bunch of girls who didn't like her just because she was different.

Thankfully the girls who did this to Paula admitted to it and were kicked out immediately. And one girl was put on probation of some sort because of her knowledge but not taking part in of the incident. We were told in almost every meeting for the next five days after the incident about how irresponsible the ward was for having had those girls take part in such an awful thing. A lot of us felt like the staff thought we had ALL known about this incident, when all of us except one girl, didn't know until we were told.

That's probably the worst incident I remember from all of my IP stays. I've had many fist fights and meal time crankyness, but none were as severe and ridiculous as this was.
