Enzymes are protein catalysts carrying out reactions to breakdown complex macromolecules and forming them and are also responsible for regulating and controling each and every process in the body. They have long been harnessed as digestive aids. However their application for betterment of life does not stop at this role. The following article takes a look at many more applications of enzymes as Therapeutic Agents.

Use of chemical control methods is not very successful to contain the disease. Hence, host plant resistance is considered as the best alternative strategy to manage the disease. Transgenic technology is proved to be one of the new approaches for transfer and deployment of resistance genes in rice. The transgenic IR72 line, carrying a cloned bacterial blight resistance gene Xa21 was evaluated against seven isolates of the bacterial blight pathogen under field condition along with resistant and susceptible checks. The results demonstrated that the transgenic line exhibited a wide spectrum of resistance against all the test isolates. The lesion length in transgenic line was significantly smaller compared to susceptible checks. The transgenic line showed higher level of resistance than the donor line IRBB21 against all the isolates of the pathogen tested. The yield performance of the transgenic was comparable with that of untransformed control under field conditions.

It attracts the attention as a sustainable and renewable energy source, which is abundant and available around the world. Agricultural and forestry residues or the biomass represent a potential low cost, low carbon source for bioenergy. Biomass is a clean form of energy produced from organic material originating from different plant species including the bioenergy crops and is essentially the collection and storage of the sun's energy through photosynthesis. It covers more than 10% of the world's primary energy demand (about 50 EJ yr -1 ). The biomass resources are by far not fully used and further research and technological development is required in this area. Biofuels are a wide range of fuels which are in some way derived from biomass. Biofuels are gaining increased public and scientific attention, driven by factors such as oil price spikes, the need for increased energy security. Various factors play a large role in the future of bioenergy in Society. Bioenergy contributes to the maintenance of rural societies, reduction of greenhouse gases, energy security, and protection and conservation of natural resources. Many of the technical barriers to bioenergy use have been overcome; the remaining hurdles are those of a less tangible nature, i.e., financial and institutional. Given a supportive policy environment, bioenergy can provide a sustainable solution to future energy demands.

It includes a various diverse approaches like hybridization and selection of intervarietal and interspecific species and different landraces and varieties that are well suited to the climatic conditions of the farm: mixed farming and cultural practices to enhance the biological and economic productivity and stability of the land; proper management of the soil to enhance and protect soil structure, soil texture, soil micro fauna and quality: growing of legume crops for soil nitrogen fixation; recycling crop waste and livestock. Sustainable crop production is a method of cultivation using principles of ecology and the study of relationships between organisms and their environment. It is an integrated system of crops and livestock production practices which is having a site-specific application which gives the long term benefits for our future needs. It depends on replenishing the soil while minimizing the use of non-renewable resources. Natural resources are an important source of nutrients and high yielding crop production. Balanced use of natural resources increased nutrient availability, nutrient and water use efficiency, improves soil fertility, enhances crop production and productivity, generate farmers income and create a beneficial interaction between crop and their surrounding environmental conditions. The chemical fertilizers should be used judiciously and proper utilization of natural resources along with chemical fertilizers for increasing demand of food, enhancing crop production and soil productivity in a sustainable way, all these efforts would lead to desired awareness and as a result proper utilization of natural resource would become a cause of a boom in agriculture sector.
