Verona junior council representatives selected

Verona welcomed John Moses and Allie Costa, juniors at Riverview High School, as junior council members during the council’s May 12 planning meeting.

“This is a program council has discussed adding for more than a year,” council president Trish Hredzak said. “We are fortunate to have such thoughtful and motivated young people in our community who are interested in civic engagement, and we look forward to hearing their perspectives and ideas for the betterment of our community.”

The council adopted the program in August and opened applications in December.

As junior members, Moses and Costa are responsible for attending monthly council voting and workshop meetings, budget sessions and community events. They will not be able to cast votes or participate in executive sessions.

Former council president Dave Matlin will be acting as a mentor for Moses and Costa, Hredzak said. The students will have the option to participate in the committees they’re interested in.
