I recently got me thinking about poetry, and to realised that whilst everyone talks about Iambic Pentameter, I, like most people, hadn’t a clue what it was. So I looked it up, and found out that it’s a poetical form with five Iambs to the line.Which probably means little enough to you, end even less to me. However, not to be downhearted I persevered and learned more and, with a confident spring, I decided to test my newfound knowledge and write some Iambic Pentameter. Picking randomly for a subject, I struck upon Troy and the Iliad. It was the first thing into my head, and all that demonstrates is that my subconscious really doesn’t like me.Still, not bad for a first effort, I think. Opens well and gets weaker, but I’m quite pleased. The song of Agamemnon and Achilles._I called your name and asked your trust in warI sang of long forgot allegiance mineYou took your sword and gave your word to meBut I was not to be denied in loveAnd took to bed Briseis your concubineThen Gods avenged on me the theft of thineHonour’s just claws demand a price be paidAnd Zeus withholds his spear from us untilDemands of sullied honour are obeyedTo raise the anger of our men and setTheir spears at foemans armoured breast I gaveThe call that all may leave. In hope that braveAegean men have steel inside their heartsReject my words and press the fight instead.Flying war, seeking home they turned their shipsTowards the distant shore of Greece and fledBut stood forth brave Odysseus who cried for peaceAnd told the tale of ten long years of war._Twenty lines is quite enough of that,/i>, thank you very much.

And a newbie veritably obsessed with the War, as anybody I know will tell you...My favorite character being, (again, as anybody I know will tell you) Cassandra. Why? Because...she's one of the few intelligent heroines of Greek myth, ranking right up there with Medea and Penelope. I really didn't like the Brad Pitt movie. I mean, yeah, I watched it for the second time (for the hell of it) a few days ago. And to be fair, it wasn't as awful as I'd originally thought it...but my main gripe is that Paris doesn't die. I mean, he should. They kill Hector, but they don't kill Paris? Come on! But, yes, I won't go there. I'm currently in the process of writing a libretto for a musical about Cassandra. accomplished ] I'm working on a piece of historical fiction that takes place during the late Bronze age (1300-1200 BC), in the area around the Black Sea (Turkey, the Caucasus Mountains, and the Volga river regions specifically). I'm fishing around for good books and resources to reconstruct (what I think) it would have been like at the time. Any suggestions?I specifically need resources (books, magazine articles, websites) that discuss: pre-Scythian cultures and people in the Black Sea region, archeology from that time period (what objects were left behind by the people there), trade in the region, Mycenaean culture, Troy, and the Trojan war. I recently saw the film Troy:Is it pretty accurate to the text? I've never read it, so I was curious. I know the basic plot with Helen and the horse, but as for details and deaths, I was unsure. Do you think the actors portrayed the characters well? I thought Eric Bana was great, but I don't know what Hector was like. They could have done better without Brad Pitt or Orlando Bloom.What did you think of their British accents? Did it bother anyone else?
