PERMIT GRANTED

Clarke to play

at

last

By JACK CANNON

STAR North Launces-

ton half forward,

Noel Clarke, is free at

last to play with Mel-

bourne.

Clarke was granted a

permit to play with the

Demons by the V.F.L. permit

committee last night.

Melbourne rate him the best

"find" since Jack Mueller.

The granting of the permit

ended Melbourne's six-weeks'

wait for his services.

Good centre

Melbourne selectors will prob-

ably use Clarke on a half-forward

flank in the game against Carl-

ton on Saturday, but officials and

club supporters who saw Clarke

in practice games say he would

do well as centre or centre half

forward.

His inclusion in the attack

should make a vast difference to

the play of rapidly improving full

forward Bill Smeaton. These two

are close friends, and Smeaton

should get many goals from

Clarke's deadly accurate passes.

The recruit will make his debut

against Jim Clark, one of the

best half-back flankers in the

game. It he does well against the

Carlton champion his future is

assured.

Zuvick cleared

Another interstate player io

Bain a permit was Nick Zuvick,

half-back, from Boulder City

(W.A.), who has been impressive

1 on the training track. He should

be included in the Geelong side

soon.
