(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. )

One of the most successful land sales

ever held here took place on Saturday at

Woodlands estate, the property of Mr

Dart. A special train from Melbourne

brought some 200 visitors, and with good

weather and a sumptuous luncheon, left

nothing to be desired. The bidding was

very keen, some of the half-acre blocks

fetching £50, and at the last a large

paddock was sold for £51 per acre.

Although this property is fully a mile from

the station, it shows how valuable property

is becoming in and around this

picturesque little village.

The work at Dr Rowan's new mansion,

on the Mount, is at a standstill through

the contractor giving up the job. Fresh

tenders will have to be let, and it will be

some considerable time before the doctor

can take possession of his mountain

The tickets for the forthcoming concert

and ball, on Wednesday next, in aid of

the Cricket Reserve, are selling splendidly,

and as some of the very best singers from

Woodend, Melbourne, Macedon, and the

surrounding district have offered their

services, a great success is anticipated.
