FOOTBALL TOPICS OF THE MOMENT
DANNY WARR, the former St.
Kilda rover, who was in the
country coaching last season, will
appear with Brighton this year.
A promising batch of new players is train-
ing under the direction of George Sparrows.
Among them are Carter, the former Fitzroy and
Carlton rover; Byron, a centre from South
Warrnambool, who has been recommended by
Colin Watson; Cheeseman, forward from Sub-Dis-
trict League; Featherstone, follower, from Glen-
elg (S.A.); Ryan, rover, Hawthorn; Condon, a
Jeparit follower; Pearson, a tall half-forward
from South Caulfield; Marshall and Jack Con-
nelly, from St. Kilda seconds; Ashfield, of
West Geelong; and two Brighton Vale players
in Street and Chapple, the latter a son of Mat
Chappie, the former champion cyclist.
All last year's player have appeared at train-
ing including Barnes, who had his first run
Northcote, who will begin training on
Tuesday, under Percy Howe, are giving special
attention to local juniors, and all in the dis-
trict are invited to attend training.
All of last season's players will be avail-
able with the exception of E. Wilson and R.
Milne, who are under disqualification. A strong
team is sure to be fielded.
Verdon, of Fltzroy, originally from Yea,
who was injured in the practice games at
Fitzroy last season, will seek a clearance to
Northcote, while Mick Burke, of Kyneton; Hep-
burn and O'Brien, of Donnybrook; L. Aamies,
of Fairfield, and W. Rowe, of Queensland,
are sure to ne strong contenders for permanent
Jack Haw, formerly of Melbourne, who was
unable to strike form last season, will strive
for inclusion, as will Merton, of Footscray.
Charlie Pannam has been appointed coach
