Title: Prideful Thoughts
Summary: Pride starts to plot on what their purpose is after they leave Dante.

He knew that sooner or later they would start to form theories, look for hints and clues, and maybe in a strange interlocking of events some one would stumble onto at least par of the truth.

Pride knew this, yet it did not bother him in the least. Even if someone did figure out the truth, and had enough evidence to make it believable to others, he knew it would be far too late for any action to be taken. He could send one of his flock out to make certain that anyone who started getting close to the truth was either hindered or taken care of.

Humans though are a suspicious race as a whole and with the prospective people that might come across part of the trail would be those in the Military, maybe even people he had known when he had just been Edward. Envy had given a comment that back before he was Pride and the tense time in the beginning of his new life would have sent him on edge.

If he allowed the people who were closing in on them to live it was not because he had any feelings of caring towards them. It would be because of sound logic and goal oriented reasoning.

Killing people off every time they started getting close to the truth was a tedious and not beneficial to their plans. For the more people killed that happened to be following a particular trail would just make more people suspicious of what the deceased had been searching for. Killing people for that reason was nothing more then a hassle when one could find other ways to use such a breakthrough for their own personal gain

Civilization cannot advance if allowed to settle and stagnate within a long period of either war or peace. One must always give way to another.

The fact that triggering such cycles was just another form of entertainment for them was just an added bonus. It was a goal of sorts for them to keep the human race stimulated so as to advance further along. Both in alchemy and other avenues and the only way that this progress could keep on the right path was by their hand.

The starting or ending of a war, changing from a dictatorship to a democracy and back again. All of these and many other aspects was theirs to move and direct as they pleased.

After all, humans had been the first to create them. So why not create something for the humans as well.

No one ever said that Equivalent Exchange was supposed to seem fair and just when it was dealt out. The Gate had taught him that simple lesson and the more time he spent watching, learning, and directing the flow of events to aide and amuse his flock it was driven home that much deeper.

The Philosopher’s Stone had ceased to be not only a priority, but also a part of their schemes.

In time they may try and prod someone along down that path again, but never for the reasons that had first started this whole thing.

Pride was more or less certain that it would be more for amusement then for any real purpose.

Before he and his flock could follow that path they would have to watch and observe. For not only was their newest addition still getting used to everything around her there was a trail that he needed to alter and soon. Warrant Officer Farman was getting too close to the truth, and at this point and time it would not be wise to have the man taken care of.

This knowledge would have to be kept to himself. For there was no telling what would happen if he allowed any of the others to freely interpret his orders. The man was a better asset alive then dead at the current moment. Though once he was done perfecting the disguise he would not have to worry as much about the man.

After all, the sudden reappearance of Brigadier General Roy Mustang would be a perfect distraction.

Pride hadn’t gained the respect of both Envy and Wrath, and the loyalty of the others by just sitting there and looking pretty.

He always had a plan for any and all situations.

Though a little ad lib here and there also kept the others on their toes when he threw it in the middle of a carefully constructed plan. It was a pity that to the outside world Jean Havoc had been killed in action. Though, no one would suspect a few new recruits to suddenly join the ranks the same day.

It wasn’t that hard to create identities when enough resources were brought together.
