Hellcats [Sep. 10th, 2010|10:56 am]All Things Television
[**Tags**|teen drama, tv]I finally got around to watching the Hellcats premiere last night. To sum it up in three words: I liked it.Marti reminds me of an anorexic Peyton Sawyer, but I miss Peyton on One Tree Hill, so I'll take what I can get. I really don't understand the Hollywood culture to stay so damn bone thin. It's gross. I digress. The main cheerleader guy played a basketball star on One Tree Hill, so it's on my brain. It's funny that this show is portraying all the male cheerleaders as masculine, straight guys. Now, I don't personally know any male cheerleaders, but I'm pretty sure this isn't the norm. Whatevs. The main character, Savanah, reminds me a bit of myself. Not the writing on people's arms thing or the perky thing, but the I-like-having-a-plan-for-everything thing. She uttered a line "If we're going to be spontaneous, can we at least have a plan?" which made me chuckle big time. There's clearly going to be drama between the cheer coach, her hot (formerly vampire fighting) boyfriend and this new football coach. There's also clearly a Dawson/Joey thing going on between Marti and her Dawson-like townie friend. I mean, he's even a filmographer. At least he's hotter than the Beek, though. In the end, it was good enough to keep me watching and I look forward to more episodes of Bring It On: Memphis.

90210 Review [Sep. 3rd, 2008|10:50 am]All Things Television
Is it just me, or was it weird to see Brenda and Kelly as friends. I'd love to see some sort of flashback to convince me that they somehow went from enemies to friends over the past ten years. Also, was it just me, or did they show the Peach Pit with about four different outside logos? Regardless, I want more Nat! His scenes seemed forced. Why didn't they show him interacting with the new kids. I think that Dixon needs to get a job there.Annalynn Macord keeps playing annoying/bitchy/crazy characters. I mean, props to the actress, because she makes me hate her each time. She did it on Greek, then Nip/Tuck and now 90210. I just about screamed when i thought that they were going to make her and Annie friends. Clearly, she's the villian in the show. I do like her drug addict/actress best friend, though. I'd definitely like to see some good storylines with her character. I definitely think we'll get to see her and Annie competing for roles in the musical.Awww, little Erin Silver is all growed up! I love what they did with her character and think that her and Annie are a great match as best friends. I'd like to see her get with Evan, though, just to fuck with Niaomi. Also, did everyone catch little Hannah Zuckerman-Vasquez on the morning news? I wonder if we're going to get to see more of her.I don't really see the point of the grandmother. I hope the family moves out and gets their own house soon, so we can see less of her. Who wants to see Brenda steal Mr. Matthews from Kelly? Just for old times' sake. =)Overall, it was a great pilot episode and I look forward to all of the misadventures of our favorite new 90210ers!

What's with the bangs? [Oct. 24th, 2007|11:14 am]All Things Television
What's with celebrities sporting bangs these days?First, it was Jennifer Garner a couple years ago. Then, Sophia Bush. Then, there was Alyson Hannigan. Now, Emily Van Camp. Seriously...what's with the crazy bangs? If Hayden Pantierre cuts her hair, I'm goingi to be very annoyed.

Random Television Updates [Oct. 16th, 2007|02:33 pm]All Things Television
HEROES: This show keeps getting better. I feel like the crux of this season's mystery is going to be finding the people in that photograph. I'd really like to know why these Elite 8 (there are 8 of them left, right?) seem to have "infected" random people with Hero powers. Or, was it The Company who injected them? Are the Elite 8 definitely connected to the company? What happened to Invisible Man? Will we see him again? Can I write this entire recap in question form? Why is Claire being such an idiot? At least her hair looked better this week. I missed seeing Peter, but we got our Petrelli fix with Nathan finally shaving his mountain man beard. What is Mama Petrelli trying to cover up by confessing to the murder? Oooh, do you think it could have been invisible man that was attacking Mama Petrelli last week? I'm really interested in the new Hero, Micah's cousin. Next week, we get Kristen Bell. There's so much Hero-y goodness going on in this show. I wish it could be longer than just one hour a week.BONES: I finally got around to watching the pony play episode of Bones. I have to say, the entire episode and they way that the community was portray annoyed the hell out of me. Of course, any time the BDSM community is painted as "sick perverts" or criminals pisses me the fuck off. I was really, really hating Booth's bigotry the entire episode. At least we had Bones counteracting him, but whoever thinks vanilla sex is better than kinky sex has clearly never had kinky sex. Whatever, Angela and Hodgins continue to be adorable. I wish Zach would get more of a storyline. They should give him a girl.FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: Oh, how I love you. Despite the ridiculous murder subplot, this show continues to rock my socks. I do like how they are bringing Landry and Tyra together, but I wonder how long that body is going to stay hidden. I think we're going to be seeing quite a bit of Landry this season and I'm quite all right with that. Poor Matt Saracen. I really hope he doesn't hook up with the nurse, but I have a feeling that he will. I really hope that the previews for next week were not misleading in making us think that Coach is going to be coming back to Dillion. His family isn't the only one who misses him. Lyla continues to be crazy, but that was a nice moment between her and Riggins. I do hope we get to see some kind of Smash storyline soon. I miss the cocky bastard!CHUCK: Still a cute show, although I'm not sure how long it is going to keep me interested. I do love all of the characters and there are some really funny moments. I especially love all of the Buy More characters and I don't mind spending time in the store with Chuck. As much as I love Sarah Lancaster, here character is kind of pointless. I really did Captain Awesome, though I hope we continue to see alot of him. His penchant for nakedness really hits home.

This Week in Television [Oct. 4th, 2007|05:52 pm]All Things Television
Here's a little scribal snapshot of what has made it from my TiVo into my brain this week.DESPERATE HOUSWIVES: This premiere wasn't as bad as I thought it was. This show often sits on my TiVo until it threatens to delete it, but I actually sorta, almost, kinda enjoyed this episode. The mystery of the returning neighbors is more more intriguing that the Applewhite fiasco of last year. I did miss the Van de Camp son, however, as he often provides the snarky comic relief.BROTHERS & SISTERS: I continue to hold this show in high regards. The writing is still fabulous and I love all of the actors and actresses, even Calista. I can't wait for Justin to get home, however. Like Amy Abbott said, he is the centerpiece of the family. Also, the story about Saul possibly being gay or formerly gay or whatever is very intriguing. I wouldn't even mind seeing a sex scene between him and Summer's dad.BEAUTY AND THE GEEK: Thankfully, we didn't have to deal much with giggly, annoying Jasmine this episode. We did have to deal with the stupid male beauty who can't tell his freakin' left from his right. To be fair, two other people missed that question, so he's not the stupidest person in the house. I was really surprised that Nicole didn't win the gift basket challenge, but I really want her to stick around, despite the fact that it means SamIAm will stick around too. I hope that we find out which geek she has a crush on. I was ok with the couple that left the house...didn't really care for them. Ya know who else gets increasingly annoying each week? The fuckin' LARPer. Seriously, stop talking dude. You'd be doing the world, as a whole, a good deed.CHUCK: Despite the over-the-top cheesiness of this show, I continue to love it. There's just something about Chuck that is automatically endearing. I wish that Sarah Lancaster would grow ou her bangs, they look awful on her. What's with chicks with bangs this year? Anyhow, good stuff with the doctor guy and I can't wait till they take Chuck on a mission. By the way, did everyone catch the Lost reference?HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER: This wasn't the best episode, but it did have its share of funnies. I really loved how everyone elevated their lexicon when Gael sauntered into the bar. I didn't much care for future Lily and Marshall, or the weird scenes of Robin with herself, but Ted's monologue against New Jersey at the end was classic. "Why don't you go home to ALMOST NEW YORK!"HEROES: So, Peter still doesn't know who he is, but he's slowly discovering his powers. Hiro is portraying Kensei and then discovers that the real Kensei (Sark) has healing powers. Awesome! Claire cuts off her toe, but flying classmate witnesses it. Oops! Still not sign of Jessica/Nikki, which is a good thing. Haitian man is back! I can't wait to see what him, HRG and Suresh have cooked up for The Company.GOSSIP GIRL: Everytime I hear the name of this show, I hear it in Kristen Bell's voice, "XOXO, Gossip Girl. Seriously, no one else could do the snarky narrations as well as she does. Have Serena and Blair come to a sort of truce? I somehow find that hard to believe. I am excited that Dan is going to give Serena another chance. I really like those two together. Are they setting up a Jenny/little brother hookup for later in the year? Tres interesting. I continuue not to care about Nate or Chuck...hopefully they'll get better storylines in the future. Also, do you think this show could suck up to Dawn Ostroff any harder?LINCOLN HEIGHTS: Does anyone else watch this show? Because I still really like it. I'm not sure what I think about Cassie and Charles's breakup. I hope that doesn't mean that we'll be seeing less of Charles. I liked the gang truce/basketball storyline this week. Not much going on with the younger two kids, but I was happy to see that we didn't have to deal with Jonny Angel this week.ALIENS IN AMERICA: I found myself really enjoying this new comedy. All of the characters are a bit quirky in their own, individual ways. I'm looking forward to seeing how they progress the characters and storylines. Also: Scott Patterson = yay!

Dexter: Awesome Marketing Campaign [Sep. 27th, 2007|04:17 pm]All Things Television
The marketing geniuses at Showtime decided to use a viral campaign for their sophomore season of the hit show, Dexter. Today, in 14 cities across the country, fountains were filled with red dye and street teams were out in white lab coats handing out hand santizier. You can see a pic of the fountain in DC's Union Station here and the LOVE fountain in Philly here.

Another Premiere: Reaper [Sep. 26th, 2007|10:59 am]All Things Television
Pop Quiz: You only have one hour to watch television on a Tuesday night. Do you just put on Beauty and the Geek or do you give your boyfriend the option to choose between BatG and a new show, Reaper? The answer should be BatG, but I'm a nice girlfriend, so we watched Reaper. Despite the fact that I've heard great things about this show, I'd not been able to make it through the long preview without yawning. But, Kevin Smith is directing! It's all the rage. It must be good.Well, no, not really. Sure, it did have some amusing one-liners and I do love Missy Peregrym (the shapeshifter from Heroes) and the main character is a rather charming dork, but I'm not sure if that is going to be enough to sustain me for an entire season. There's too much good TV out there to be wasting time on mediocre TV.That being said, I didn't *hate* the show and I'm going to give it another episode or two before I retract my season pass, but the writers better increase the snark and decrease the Dirt Devil references. I'm anxious to see if Sam (main character) enlists the help of his friends to capture the demons, ala the Scooby gang from Buffy. Now that would make it a show worth watching.
