'Reacher' Spinoff Gets Series Order — Maria Sten as Neagley (original) (raw)

Prime Video on Tuesday morning announced a series order for a spinoff of Reacher, one of the streamer’s beefiest hits, centered on Maria Sten‘s Frances Neagley.

Sten (Swamp Thing, Channel Zero) has played Neagley in both Reacher seasons that have already streamed and will also appear in the upcoming third season (even though her character is absent in the source material, Lee Child’s Persuader novel, which I am about halfway through reading).

The Untitled Neagley Project is created by co-showrunners Nick Santora (Reacher, Prison Break) and Nicholas Wootton (Prison Break), and will follow Neagley as a private investigator in Chicago.

When Neagley learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, “she becomes hell bent on justice,” the official logline tells us. “Using everything she’s learned from Jack Reacher and her time as a member of the 110 Special Investigators, Neagley puts herself on a dangerous path to uncover a menacing evil.”

Said Sten in a statement, “I’m beyond thrilled to further explore the world of Neagley and her somewhat mysterious background. She’s such a wonderful character to play and I’m very excited for everyone to get to know her a little better.”

Neagley, who like (Jack) Reacher goes by her last name, left the Army as a Master Sergeant. The character also experiences haptephobia, a fear of being touched.

“Lee Child created an immensely rich character with Neagley, and Maria Sten brought her to life in such a vivid, authentic way in Reacher,” Santora and Wootton said in a statement. “Amazon, Skydance Television, and CBS Studios have been tremendous partners from the start, and we are excited to explore Neagley’s story further and dive into what makes her so unique.”

In addition to Santora and Wootton, the as-yet-untitled series will be executive-produced by author Child, Don Granger, Lisa Kussner, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Matt Thunell.
