focus on Type 2 diabetes (original) (raw)

4/28/11 07:09 pm - gasslight - broke, diabetic with rash, infections and other TMI If you're still with me after THAT, I'm looking for some ideas. I'm a Type II diabetic and recently moved to Florida. I was already not having the best control, as I can't afford most of the medication that I've been prescribed, nor to see my doctor. Before I had moved, I had started something called Rainbow coverage, using a humalog kiwkpen. I was also supposed to be taking a long acting lantus shot at bedtime, but hadn't purchased that in ages, which is certainly part of what put my blood sugar up. I had been taking the humalog - my doc's office often had samples and I'd purchased it twice, but it's also costly and I'd increased the dosage A LOT since my bs was often around 300, and I'm pretty much out now.ANYway, I moved to Florida a couple of months ago and what with the stress of moving and not taking all my meds, I developed a couple of successive yeast infections, which I treated.THEN I developed a rash under my breasts. I think it's more than just a heat rash and could also be yeast and/or diabetes related. I'm trying to remember yogurt and also cranberry juice (no sugar added and cut with club soda, of course) daily and I AM taking my metformin and trying to curb sweets-eating. I'm keeping the area (actually areaS as I've also developed this rash where my legs meet my torso) as dry as possible, given that this is a sweaty kinda place. I'm using medicated powder. I use a dilute apple cider vinegar rinse after I bathe and then applying hydrocortisone cream.I've asked around for a diabetes clinic and I checked at the county health department but all anyone is coming up with is social services. I asked there, but of course, they're like a one trick pony and need me to sign up for and get social services so I can have a doctor and prescription coverage. OK. and FINE. I will pursue that, but it requires me to collect quite a bit of paperwork from out of state and also other bureaucrasies, which move pretty slowly as well.Meanwhile, here I am with no lantus, no more humalog, no doctor contact and a pretty uncomfortable, well, boobierash. I would love to hear anything useful you can give me, either your own experiences or suggestions for any part of my uh, situation. Provided, of course, that you got this far.
