The paper concentrates on factors to be taken into account when developing 3D multi-users versions of existing, standalone 2D simulation games, as well as on the key features of the resulting eLearning applications, and the associated promising research directions which emerged from the project. 1.

After identifying the key challenges of knowledge management and proposing a vision that address them, this paper explores how cognitive agents can be used to design management systems that implement this vision and that in particular support the knowledge management processes in both their social, organizational and individual dimension.

The agent, a personal assistant, continuously analyses the actions of the user in order to build and maintain a "behavioural profile" reflecting the level of adoption of the "desired" behaviours. Using this profile, and relying on a model borrowed from change management theories, the agent provides customised guidance, mentoring, motivation and stimuli, supporting the gradual transformation of the user’s behaviours. 1.

The objective of this paper is to report on insights generated within a EU-funded research project- LIP (Learning In Process) – ailed at providing highly contextualized e-learning systems addressing the needs knowledge intensive organizations. 1. This agent continuously observes the actions of the user in order to build and maintain a "behavioural profile" reflecting the level of adoption of the "desired" behaviours. Using this profile, and relying on a model borrowed from change management theories, the agent provides customised guidance, mentoring and stimulation, supporting the user change from his old behaviours to the new ones.

In this context, the participants decode, process and emit information for making sense of this social world, and for acting upon it. The objective of this paper is to explore the implication of this setting for an application in the context of supporting creativity online. More specifically, we examine the effect of the massive circulation of this social information and its management on systems supporting the collective creative process online.

The first part of this paper provides an overview of the concept of the learning organizations that are more flexible and in which the people are more autonomous. It then indicates the limitations of the traditional learning approaches for addressing the learning needs of this category of organization and in particular their inability to take into account their specificity and to support the empowerment of the employees. It then explains how new learning models, more situated (cognitively and socially), more engaging (experiential) or intervening at a deeper level with the aims of transforming the learners’ beliefs and attitudes, are providing more satisfactory solutions. It also points out importance of the human f...

In particular, we focus on the mechanisms needed to support the adoption of knowledge sharing processes, which are vital to knowledge management practices and often encounter the strongest resistance. A competency matching function, integrated in the presented agent system, allows dynamic matching of suppliers and consumers of information. Profiling (of people as well as of other resources) is used to supply knowledge-sharing partners with contextual information necessary for efficient knowledge exchange. Finally, we discuss another distinctive feature of the system, its capability to propose knowledge sharing actions within the context of user’s activities and in relation with their level of adoption of knowledge sharing practices.

These games rely on the principle of exposing and familiarizing the learner in a risk free environment to a variety of collaborative mechanisms and practices related to collaboration with a particular emphasis on the sociological and psychological dimensions. The learning objective of these games is to teach the learner about these collaborative practices and mechanism, to stimulate to the adoption of these practices, but also to help him/her setting-up and managing high performing collaborative teams. This paper then stretches some design principles of such games for teaching collaboration that are based on agent-enhanced multi-users distributed role playing simulations, in which the users are engaged into collaborative activities with other (real or simu...

User modelling is an important element in the management of personal profiles and identity of users, but also a key element for providing adaptive features and personalized interaction. In this paper, we present personalization as the process consisting on the customization, and the adaptation of the interaction along the structure, the content, the modality, the presentation and the level of attention required. The paper surveys personalization techniques and provides concrete examples of personalized interaction. In particular, the paper focuses on the role of user modeling for enhanced, personalized user support within interactive applications. The key contribution of the paper is to propose a framework of personalization techniques and to identify new forms of personalization that aim at taking into account human cognitive capabilities and emotions.

This approach is operationalized by (1) providing mechanisms that support social processes (trust building, group formation and coordination); (2) using proactive software agents to increase the level of interactivity and to stimulate knowledge exchange; (3) personalizing as much as possible the interaction (in the selection and in the presentation of the content) in order to maximize the impact of the knowledge delivered. Different examples help to illustrate how this approach can be applied in a variety of application contexts.

On the one hand, in order to support autonomous, self paced, and discovery oriented learning, learners must be offered access to a large amount of information and tools. On the other hand the quantity and variety of the information and tools provided should not overwhelm learners who should instead be guided in the access, use, experimentation, and synthesis of the available resources. We propose that a shift of focus from information presentation to attention guidance in system design may allow reconciling the conflict between increased informational need and the limited human cognitive capabilities. On the basis of findings in cognitive psychology and pedagogy, we present some of the issues that should be taken into consideration for the design of systems capable of such guidance and we propose how these may be integrated in the architecture of an attention aware learni...
