Fairness evaluating effects of prescriptions is indispensably importance in disease treatment. The development of Intelligence Technologies nowadays makes it realizable for a moderation of subjective prescription evaluations in medicine. In this paper, we present an application of Self-Organizing Map (SOM) to visualization of herbal prescription effects in Oriental Medicine (OM). The application is used to estimate influence of herbal ingredients prescribed for patients who have several concurrent diseases. Inputs to the SOM are herbal treatment prescriptions, and an output is a map that shows disease states that can be influenced by these prescriptions. Training data is 133 standard prescriptions with 221 popular herbs in 17 disease groups collected from oriental medical text books by experienced doctors. This study proposes a power management system for personal ICT equipment in office environments w... more This study proposes a power management system for personal ICT equipment in office environments with taking account of user context. The system automatically puts ICT devices into sleep mode and wakes up them when a user comes in or leaves the office rooms. In our preliminary experiment, the LCD power state is controlled by users' presence that are recognized by a wireless distance sensor and human appearances recognition technique. The evaluation result shows that the system can save more energy consumption compared with simple timeout-based power management schemes.

In this paper, we present an application of soft computing into a decision support system RETS: R... more In this paper, we present an application of soft computing into a decision support system RETS: Rheumatic Evaluation and Treatment System in Oriental Medicine (OM). Inputs of the system are severities of observed symptoms on patients and outputs are a diagnosis of rheumatic states, its explanations and herbal prescriptions. First, an outline of the proposed decision support system is described after considering rheumatic diagnoses and prescriptions by OM doctors. Next, diagnosis by fuzzy inference and prescription by neural networks are described. By fuzzy inference, RETS diagnoses the most appropriate rheumatic state in which the patient appears to be infected, then it gives a prescription written in suitable herbs with reasonable amounts based on neural networks. Training data for the neural networks is collected from experienced OM physicians and OM text books. Finally, we describe evaluations and restrictions of RETS.

As limited power budget is becoming one of the most crucialchallenges in developing supercomputer... more As limited power budget is becoming one of the most crucialchallenges in developing supercomputer systems, hardware overprovisioning which installs larger number of nodes beyond the limitations of the power constraint determinedby Thermal Design Power is an attractive way to design extreme-scale supercomputers. In this design, power consumption of each node should be controlled by power-knobs equipped in the hardware such as dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) or power capping mechanisms. Traditionally, in supercomputer systems, schedulers determine when and where to allocate jobs. In overprovisioned systems, the schedulers also need to care about power allocation to each job. An easy way is to set a fixed power cap for each job so that the total power consumption is within the power constraint of the system. This fixed power capping does not necessarily provide good performance since the effective power usage of jobs changes throughout their execution. Moreover, because each job has its own performance requirement, fixed power cap may not work well for all the jobs. In this paper, we propose a demand-aware power management framework for overprovisioned and power-constrained high-performance computing (HPC) systems. The job scheduler selects a job to run based on available hardware and power resources. The power manager continuously monitors power usage, predicts performance of executing jobs and optimizes power cap of each CPU so that the required performance level of each job is satisfied while improving system throughput by making good use of available powerbudget. Experiments on a real HPC system and with simulation for a large scale system show that the power manager can successfully control power consumption of executing jobs while achieving 1.17x improvement in system throughput.

The more that human society develops, the greater the human need for well-mannered and elegant cl... more The more that human society develops, the greater the human need for well-mannered and elegant clothes, especially traditional costumes. Selecting fine clothes for a specific occasion is always an interesting individual question. Based on computer vision and machine learning, this research proposes a Kansei (emotional) evaluation for Aodai, which is traditional and well-known Vietnamese clothes for women. Features of an Aodai image are described by color coherence vectors. Self-organizing maps (SOMs) and multilayer neural networks (NNs) are used to learn the relationships between the image features and the Kansei words. Once learned, the system can recommend which Aodai is suitable for a woman through her desired feelings. She can use this recommendation when purchasing an Aodai at online stores or selecting one from her own collection for an outing. Topics for future research include investigating other image representation methods, such as combinations of color buckets in different parts of the Aodai, using more detailed descriptions in decorative patterns, and integrating conspicuity factors such as color harmony, discriminability and visibility.

This research proposes a Kansei Evaluation based on Computer Vision for a traditional Vietnamese women’s cloth named Ao dai. Image features for outside environment images and Aodaiimages are described by Color Coherence Vector (CCV).
