After being attacked by COVID-19 a few years ago, Indonesia's education system has embraced a new... more After being attacked by COVID-19 a few years ago, Indonesia's education system has embraced a new trend which is the hybrid learning environment. It happens since traditional face-to-face teaching and learning were forbidden by the Indonesian government during COVID-19 pandemic. Alternatively, virtual teaching and learning were implemented. Interestingly, the habit of integrating technology in education continues after the pandemic by the implementation of hybrid learning and teaching environments. This qualitative research with a case study approach is aiming at exploring EFL higher students' experiences in a hybrid environment. Six students were taken by the researchers by applying purposive sampling to participate in this research. The main method of data collection is through open-ended interviews. This approach aims to provide a thorough understanding of the experience of EFL higher students in a hybrid environment following the pandemic. The interview data were recorded, transcribed, analyzed, and divided into several themes. Furthermore, a member checking was done by the researchers to enhance the trustworthiness of the research. This research reveals two main themes that highlight the benefits and drawbacks of a hybrid environment. Furthermore, suggestions and recommendations were offered to all related parties.

This study uses Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) to examine lexical metaphor in Sura Al Waqi... more This study uses Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) to examine lexical metaphor in Sura Al Waqi'ah. The purpose of the study is to characterize the many kinds of lexical metaphors found in Sura Al Waqi'ah, the manner in which they are employed, and the motivation behind their inclusion in the text. Research methods used in this study included descriptive analysis. The data came from Sura Al Waqi'ah. The results showed that there are three lexical metaphor concepts in Sura Al Waqi'ah, with 13 verses (23.21%) dealing with the noun-noun concept, 23 verses (41.07%) dealing with the noun-verb or verb-noun concept, and 20 verses (35.71%) dealing with the noun-adjective or adjective-noun concept. Second, Sura Al Waqi'ah uses noun-noun, noun-verb or verb-noun, and noun-adjective or adjective-noun comparisons to realize its lexical metaphor. In Sura Al Waqi'ah, lexical metaphors are employed to convey ideas that are outside of human experience, to make abstract concepts concrete, and to explain something unfamiliar yet with a familiar context. We learn about the resurrection day in Sura Al Waqi'ah. The events leading up to and following the day of the Resurrection are explained in this Sura. Easter is an ambiguous concept. Nobody in this world has firsthand knowledge of the day of the resurrection. Therefore, it is mostly discussed in this Sura. Because of this, the most common use of lexical metaphor in Sura Al Waqi'ah is to concretely describe an abstract concept.

There were eight participants who live and study in an Indonesian orphanage. They were randomly chosen in this research. The data were mainly collected through individual semi-structured interviews and focus group discussion (FGD) sections. All interviews and FGD sections data were recorded, transcribed, analyzed, and divided into several themes and subthemes. Further, member checking was done to develop the trustworthiness of the research. The research revealed that internal and external factors were positively related to motivation and demotivation in learning English among Indonesian orphan students. Further, suggestions and policy recommendations were all offered to related parties to support and give equal educational facilities to all students since they have the same right for education.

Therefore, this paper aims to examine previous studies that focused on the relationship between different school principals’ leadership styles and teachers’ job satisfaction to find out which style best to be implemented in the school context. Within this purpose, twenty-five studies related to the issue were found and downloaded in some journals from reputable databases. However, English proficiency among most Indonesian students is not improved significantly. Therefore, this qualitative research with case study approach aims to find out factors causing low English proficiency among Indonesian university students. There were six heterogeneous participants coming from all over Indonesia in this research that the researchers got through purposive sampling. The data were collected mainly through individual interview. All interview data were recorded, transcribed, analyzed, and divided into themes. To develop the trustworthiness of the research, the researcher did member checking. The findings show that there were two major factors causing Indonesian university students have low English proficiency namely internal and external factors. Internal factors consist of low motivation and learning anxiety, and external factors consist of inappropriate teaching method, class size, and poor English environment. Paragraph writing class is a part of language disciplines which may get some benefits from the usage of SNS. This qualitative research with a case study approach explores the perceptions of English students on the benefits and limitations of using WhatsApp during their learning activities. There were six participants in this research that the researcher got through purposive sampling; two students who got high, average, and low score of pre-test. The data were collected through questionnaire and interview. The data were analyzed in three major themes; 1. General background of the participants using WhatsApp, 2. Benefits of WhatsApp in paragraph writing class, and 3. Limitations of WhatsApp in paragraph writing class. The findings of the current research indicate that there were positive perceptions of the students in using WhatsApp in paragraph writing class to enhance teaching and learning process in the 21st century such as: 1. Offering peer review, 2. Independence from time and location, 3. Perceived progress of vocabulary, and 4. Grammatical improvement. However, there were two limitations emerged which are: 1. Unstable internet connection, and 2. Costly to use. Moreover, suggestions and pedagogy recommendations are offered to all related parties such as: 1. Lecturers, 2. Policymakers of higher education, 3. Higher education students, and other stakeholders.
