The study included 121 children, aged 5 to 7, from different socioeconomic backgrounds living in the city of Barranquilla, Colombia. The children stated that the nature of this social category is based on situations external to the individuals rather than essentialist reasons. No significant differences were found as regards age, gender or socioeconomic status (SES), except in the capacity of the respondents to self-categorize their social status. Children who find fewer differences between members and non-members of a given category tend to err in their self-categorization, which is important for the prevention of social exclusion.

We propose the use of a detection function belonging to the Spatial Capture-Recapture (SCR) which is a powerful analytical approach for detecting and estimating the abundance of biological populations. To test our approach, we created a set of proxy measures for the importance of pedestrian streets as well as neighborhood attributes. The importance of pedestrian streets was measured by centrality indicators. Additionally, proxy measures of neighborhood attributes were created using multivariate analysis of census data. A series of candidate models were tested to determine which attributes are most important for detecting social media users. The results of the analysis provide information on which attributes of the city have promising potential for detecting social media users. Finally, the main results and findings, limitations and extended use of the proposed methodological approach are discussed.

As opposed to traditional methods, the point of departure is a desired future defined by stakeholders followed by the question "what shall we need to do today to get there". We test the power of the proposed method using a land-use change model in a region in the south Chile to control future conflicts around land-ownerships between the population and the dominant indigenous ethnic group. Results of the model are expected to help local government with the actions to be made today to avoid conflicts in the future. Additionally we expect this study to be the starting point of a smart governance framework project in which the definition of desire future scenarios can be assisted by electronic means such as 3D visualization software.

Different heuristic methods has been developed to deal with this kind of problems. Nevertheless, it is necessary to explore the impact that the bottleneck machine has on the performance of each heuristic. In this article an F6 || Cmax (Makespan) flow shop is tackled with different well-known heuristics in open literature, such as Palmer, Johnson, Gupta, CDS, NEH and PAS and their impact on Cmax was measure. The methodology used seeks to find the possible relationship between the different bottleneck machines and the result obtained from each of the heuristics. For this experiment, there were 302 scenarios with six machines in series, in which each machine had a parity number of scenarios in which it was the bottleneck. The values of Cmax obtained for each heuristic were compared against the result of corresponding MILP (Mixed Integer Liner Problem) problem. The results show that the performance of the NEH heuristic is superior in each scenario, regardless of the bottleneck, but also shows a variable behavior in each heuristic, taking into account the bottleneck machine.

It is known that T1D patients mainly have glycemic variability with a specific oscillatory pattern with specific circadian characteristics for each patient. However, it has not yet been determined whether an oscillation pattern represents the variability of glycemic in T2D. This is why our objective is to determine the characteristics of glycemic oscillations in T2D and generate a robust predictive model. Results Showed that glycosylated hemoglobin, glycemia, and body mass index were all higher in patients with T2D than in controls (all p < 0.05). In addition, time in hyperglycemia and euglycemia was markedly higher and lower in the T2D group (p < 0.05), without significant differences for time in hypoglycemia. Standard deviation, coefficient of variation, and total pow...

In the case of R&D, significant advances have been made in the last two decades, which have enriched our understanding of its impact on various innovation outcomes. However, due to a lack of data availability, its study is difficult to address in emerging markets. This is why, using microdata from 5588 firms, we investigate the relationship between R&D investment and the impact on product and process innovations in different Latin American countries. We contribute to the literature by employing a machine learning methodology and comparing its results to a traditional innovation model. Our findings demonstrate the behavior of both product and process innovation methods.

Method: Survey study that assessed the self-reported frequency of injection medications through a validated electronic questionnaire, applied from September to December 2017. Results: The 1,295 computed responses showed non-compliances such as sharing multidose vials for two or more patients (10.8%), reusing single-use supplies, such as use of saline flush syringes for different patients (1.2%) and needle recapping after use (4.9%). Greater adherence to glove use for administration of intravenous injections (80.5%) and lack of training for handling safety devices (13%) were reported. Correlational data showed that, the older the age, the better the self-reported injecting practices. Conclusion: Although most practices are within Safe Injecting practices, there are reports of risky practices, such as sharing single-use supplies. Training for the use of safety devices is not yet a reality for all professionals, since many reported it as rare.

This have motivated companies to establish alliances and agreements with others in order to reduce cost or access new markets, for example. In the literature, we could find many works aimed at cooperation in supply chains. A smaller amount was focused at cluster cooperation and few of them propose methodologies or models to facilitate the development and implementation of cooperation in industrial clusters. This paper provides a methodology for cooperation in clusters, which was applied to the furniture industry of Atlantico region in Colombia. Shapley value was used in order to evaluate the different coalitions and to split the benefits obtained with these coalitions. The methodology is useful for cluster members in order to encourage the formation of alliances within the cluster in order to overcome the prevailing mistrust, strengthening the cluster and gaining competitiveness.

However, it is unclear whether glycemic variability displays a specific pattern oscillation or if it is completely random. Thus, to determine glycemic variability pattern, we measured and analyzed continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data, in control subjects and patients with DM type-1 (T1D). CGM data was assessed for 6 days (day: 08:00–20:00-h; and night: 20:00–08:00-h). Participants (n = 172; age = 18–80 years) were assigned to T1D (n = 144, females = 65) and Control (i.e., healthy; n = 28, females = 22) groups. Anthropometry, pharmacologic treatments, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and years of evolution were determined. T1D females displayed a higher glycemia at 10:00–14:00-h vs. T1D males and Control females. DM patients displays mainly stationary oscillations (deterministic), with circadian rhythm characteristics. The glycemia oscillated between 2 and ...
