However, the high cost of this equipment is a limiting factor in diverse environments. Motion capture systems such as Microsoft KinectTMpresent an alternative approach to motion capture technology. In this paper, two motion capture systems are compared by means of joint trajectories and anthropometric measurements of a person in a normal gait cycle. The first is accurate trading system that uses markers (ViconTM), and the second is Microsoft KinectTM camera. Both systems were evaluated in order to compare the geometric difference and the RMS error between the joint human walking paths obtained for each of the systems. The results show a greater variance in anthropometric measures and joint trajectories for Kinect, although this system is inexpensive and easy to use and install, cannot be used fo...

Resultados: A partir del an...

A total of 90 HRV records were analyzed: 45 from healthy subjects and 45 from cardiovascular risk patients. A total of 52 features from all the analysis methods were evaluated using standard two-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test (KS-test). The results of the statistical procedure provided input to multilayer perceptron (MLP) neural networks, radial basis function (RBF) neural networks and support vector machines (SVM) for data classification. These schemes showed high performances with both training and test sets and many combinations of features (with a maximum accuracy of 96.67%). Additionally, there was a strong consideration for breathing frequency as a relevant feature in the HRV analysis.

For this reason, the objective of this study was to characterize the posture in the act of writing of wheelchair users in a classroom. Eight students, (three women) aged 18-40, of some of the main universities of the city of Santiago de Cali participated. An observational field study filming of approximately 10 minutes was done while they took notes in their classes. Posture of the head, trunk, and upper extremities was analyzed with respect to its axis and the type of movement in each joint. The postures were classified depending on the location of support surface finding five different postures in the eight students. In these five postures some biomechanical risk factors, usually present in wheelchair users, are increased when they are associated with those postures. Those associated risk factors are: possible disc spine deforma...

This project supports the implementation of three methods by using inertial sensors to estimate energy expenditure indirectly, in order to relate the values obtained with those calculated by the Leger Test in field trials. The results show that the error values for the estimation of energy expenditure are not significantly different in each method. Therefore, it was determined, from a statistical, engineering perspective and from the experience gained with the use of sensors, that the optimal implementation method for estimating energy expenditure is accelerometry.
