In accordance with the localization and the histopathological findings it is concluded that the case described is a nymphal infestation by pentastomid of Porocephalus (Humboldt, 1811) genus. This is the first report of Porocephalus in Hydrodinastes gigas in Argentina. Some aspects related to the final host, life cycle and potential pathogenicity for humans is discussed.

It includes environmental and population studies which are followed by the collection of eggs from nature after authorization by the relevant agencies, which are then incubated artificially and fattened for commercial purposes. This process may lead to alterations in the eggs that cause different degrees of congenital anomalies that affect the future life of the animal to a greater or lesser extent. Eggs collected in the natural environment may suffer unfavorable thermal variations, which in certain phases of embryonic development may lead to the appearance of a teratogen. In this work we describe the finding of a parasitic univithelial twin in Caiman yacare. The possible causes of this anomaly and a review of congenital anomalies in crocodiles are described.

Since the animal presented a lesion in the distal third of the tail and had been refractory to different treatments, caudal amputation was the elected approach. Sterile tissue samples were seeded in Sabouraud agar with glucose and inhibitors, 8% ovine blood agar and McConkey agar (AMc), and incubated at 37 ºC. Under these conditions, white opaque fungal colonies with light brown pigmentation on the underside developed. Microscopically, the genus Chrysosporium was identified by the observation of septate, straight, irregularly branched hyphae with smooth surface and globose conidia. Histological findings included loss of epithelial continuity with infiltration of granulocytes and the presence of the saprophytic organism. In the dermis, granulomatous lesion with scarce fibroblastic and angioblastic reactions were observed.

We describe a case of chronic left sided eventration associated with deformity of the right femoral fossa in a 30-year-old female Argentine land tortoise. The animal was referred for evaluation of a soft and non-painful deformity of the left lumbar fossa and third degree lameness of the left posterior limb. Eventration of one bladder lobe and oviduct loops was diagnosed by ultrasonography. We describe the anesthetic protocol and the surgical technique used in the treatment with approach to the coelomic cavity through the prefemoral fossa, as well as the resolution of the abdominal wall defect.

The determination of red blood cells, leukocyte and thrombocyte count, hematocrit, hemoglobin concentration, hematometric index and differential leukocyte count were performed and compared with other saurian species. No statistically significant changes were observed as function as sex and age ( p > 0.01). During winter high values of red blood cell counts, hematocrit and hemoglobin were observed ( p < 0.01), while in summer significantly increased leukocyte and thrombocyte counts were observed ( p < 0.01). The differential leukocyte counts were not affected by the studied factors.

Venom was extracted from thirty adult specimens (35±70 cm in length, 90±300 g in weight) captured in the Province of Buenos Aires and kept in captivity. Venom yield was 3±30 mg. SDS-PAGE showed strong bands at 14.0; 23±25; 45; 54 and 63 kDa and weak bands at 17.0; 30.0; 40.0 and 85.0 kDa. Toxic activities were: LD 50 (intravenous, mice) 0.52 0.2 mg/g; minimal procoagulant dose on human plasma (MPD-P) 3522 mg/ l; and minimal de®brinogenating dose (MDD, mice) 6±12 mg. Hemorrhagic and/or necrotic activities appear to play a major role in lethality; minimal hemorrhagic dose (MHD, mice) is 1022 mg/g and minimal necrotizing dose (MND, mice) is 3825 mg. The LD 50 , MPD-P and MND are among the lowest in venoms from Bothrops species found in Argentina. B. ammodytoides venom exhibited high proteolytic and phospholipase A 2 activities. Most of

Cardiotoxin was able to induce direct hemolysis in washed erythrocytes from several animals, except for llama. The EC50 values from hemolysis of the most sensitive (cat) and the most resistant (snake) animal varied approximately tenfold. According to the cell behavior, it was possible to characterize four types of behavior: The first was observed in cat, horse and human cells; the second in rat, rabbit and dog erythrocytes; and the third only in llama erythrocytes, which were resistant to cardiotoxin concentrations up to 300 µg/ml. Finally, avian and reptilian erythrocytes were more resistant to cardiotoxin III-induced hemolysis than those of the mammalian species.
