Supported by Virgil Bercea, the Bishop of the Greek Catholic Diocese of Oradea, local researchers unearthed valuable information regarding the history of the eparchy. The book presented here provides one such example. The book, edited by a research group consisting of Silviu Sana, Tiberiu Ciorba and Traian Ostahie, is part of a local history project launched in 2017, under the guidance of Anton Cioba, Rector of the Greek Catholic Theological Seminary in Oradea. It seems a second generation of local historians follows the path established by well-known figures, such as Blaga Mihoc or the late Iudita Călușer. The book was first presented on the 30 th of January 2022, during the festivities celebrating the 230 th anniversary of the Greek Catholic Theological Seminary in Oradea. It stands out as a biographical dictionary, sketching the profiles of 1157 theological students who studied at the Greek-Catholic Seminary of Oradea from its foundation in 1792 until 1948. Given that the book deals with the long duration, each author was assigned a time frame to analyze. Thus, the period between 1792-1850 was assigned to Tiberiu Ciorba, 1851-1900 to Silviu Sana, and, finally, 1900-1948 to Traian Ostahie. Despite the efforts of the three researchers, due to the scarcity of the sources, some school years were not examined. However, a vast majority of the school years was assessed. As for the sources used by the authors, it is worth noting their diverse character, the use of unpublished archival funds, and also the laborious use of church schematismus. Structurally, the volume consists of an introductory study (p. 13-25), accompanied by brief methodological aspects, a chronology of the school years (p. 29-94), and the biographies of the theological students (p. 95-334). Even though the authors propose a two-part structure, the bulk of the book is represented by the biographies. The introductory study briefly presents the coordinates of the book and also provides some quantitative preliminaries to the biographies of the theological students. The first part of the book presents the higher-educational institutions attended by the theological students in Oradea from 1792 to 1948. As a matter of fact, the chapter Cronologia anilor școlari (1792-1948) is a list of theological students of the Greek Catholic Theological Seminary in Oradea and the highereducational institutions they attended.

One of the aims of the analyzed work is to evaluate the refugees' condition, including the manner in which they integrate in the society that becomes their new home. Philipp Ther gives courses on the history of Central Europe at the University of Vienna, and the book we are reviewing is the result of a lengthy research started in the last decade of the previous century. Initially, this book appeared in 2017, in German, with the title Die Außenseiter: Flucht, Flüchtlinge und Integration im modernen Europa. In 2019, it was published in English under the aegis of two top Western universities, Princeton and Oxford. The translation was done for a seminary held by the author at New York University in 2018. The English version contains an extra chapter in comparison to the German original edition. The discussed volume examines the refuge phenomenon during the entire modern era, starting from the premise that this era began in 1492. The geographical area is Europe, but understood in a larger sense, as the debate incorporates North Africa and the Middle East. In addition, the attitude of the United States regarding refugees was taken into account as well. As we have seen above, the author also reveals the manner in which refugees integrate in their adoptive societies, by focusing on four cardinal aspects, namely legal status, integration on the labor market, residence, and marital behavior. Thus, refugees are perceived as subjects and independent actors on the stage of history rather than as its objects. In this sense, from a methodological point of view, Philipp Ther introduces a series of biographical sketches regarding the cases of diverse refugees. His approach is a deductive one, and the various groups of refugees presented by him often become arguments provided for sustaining a work hypothesis. Our analysis follows rather the interpretative grid constructed by the author than the cases supporting it. The author's documentation for this book implied hard work, as he used both archival sources and scholarly literature in several international languages. At the same time, we would like to mention that throughout the volume, the German historian constantly refers to the current conditions of refugees and especially to the reticence of illiberal regimes towards them. This approach can be beneficial but also unfavorable, because it can distort the historian's perspective and relate the status of refugees of other eras to current circumstances.

It aims to use a sample of pupils and teachers from between 1876 and 1882. On the one hand, by employing a database of the pupils that studied at the high school and coding systems for historical occupational data, the intergenerational social mobility of the pupils is briefly analyzed. On the other hand, an online, hybrid visualization software (Nodegoat), is used to geographically project the intellectual and professional formation of the high school’s teachers.

The database and the geographic annotations presented here are already being developed to include further pupils that studied at the Greek Catholic High School in Beiuș subsequent to the 1876/1877 school year. Therefore, the database and the geographic annotations are a pilot version of a broader project meant to conclude into a monograph regarding the Greek Catholic High School in Beiuș in the 19 th century and first quarter of the 20 th century.
