The purpose of the study was to assess the functioning of the Mobile Money system in the Buea Mun... more The purpose of the study was to assess the functioning of the Mobile Money system in the Buea Municipality and its impact on financial security of users in the Buea Municipality. In such a short time since its inception, the system has been able to attract so many subscribers and users. What is it about the Mobile Money system that has attracted so many subscribers to use the system, and why are there so few active users. The study aimed to assess the functioning of the system and its effects on financial security of users in the Buea Municipality. Qualitative research design was employed in the study. The data was collected through Interviews, observation and online research. The study revealed that the Mobile money system is having both positive and negative impact on financial security of users in the Municipality. The system has some positive impacts which has attracted so many subscribers and some negative impacts which accounts for the low number of active users. Thus, the MTN Mobile money system in the Buea Municipality is a double edge-sword.
