The process developed under the Material Intelligence Workflow applied to the development of (1) a computational simulation of the mechanical and physical behaviour of an activated auxetic surface, (2) the generation of a geometrical dataset composed of six geometric features with 3,000 values each, (3) the construction and training of a regression Deep Neuronal Network (DNN) model, (4) the prediction of the geometric feature of the auxetic surface's pattern distance, and (5) the reconstruction of a new shell based on the predicted value. This process consistently reduces the computational power and simulation time to produce digital prototypes by integrating AI-based algorithms into material computation design processes.

This research studies the process of 3D printing bidimensional layers over a tensioned fabric to generate three-dimensional shapes. After the tension of the fabric is released, the printed pattern generates tension and compression over the textile, which conduce and distribute the internal forces generating a controlled deformation with a final form. Digital simulation of finite anticlastic shapes and parametric design undermechanical constraints of thematerial used to predict and compare both physical and digital forms. These allow us to evaluate and optimize the printed pattern in order to decrease the amount of used energy and material to produce a performative shape.

Specifically, StyleGAN's algorithms offer a novel approach to experimenting with shapes from previously designed images of products or objects. This article presents the application of a methodology for image experimentation to designers without previous knowledge of computation and programming. Each of the steps was developed through different cases for different speculative object production, using artificial intelligence algorithms, and reflecting-in an applied way-the designer's role as curator and cocreator of the creative process in conjunction with computing.

Even though the graphical outcomes are distant to become architectural spaces, they might become a potential starting point for the exploration of an architectural project, limited within the input variation. By creating a database of specific categories of architectural images located in certain contexts, significant findings might emerge defining the 'style of a culture'. This research analyzes the spatial findings of the outcomes of a SyleGAN algorithm-generated with a database of Chilean houses built between the years 2010 and 2020, where the results of the synthetic images suggest the integration of vegetation and a significant relationship between the proportion of voids in the architectural-like generative volume.

The emergence of biomaterials open-source recipes in maker communities and digital fabrication laboratories open new approaches for design, raising the idea that designers can become cookers, controlling all design process and its potential outcomes. The methodology presents four steps to develop recipes and biomaterials to achieve a final product design without requiring any previous knowledge. Also combines different digital fabrication techniques to produce new material expressions, systems, functionalities and products.

The power of computation allows the transition from algorithms performing rules to algorithms as performing entities that can select, evaluate, transform and produce data. Algorithms through its capacity of computing objects and materials that are not considered as common computers has now reached an openness that can give intelligence to almost every element of our build environment. Smart things require a minimum human intervention to generate, exchange and transform data creating unexpected and un-deterministic outcomes. Materials embedded information defines what the material, as a system, can be. In a as conscious algorithm, information can be managed pursuing a desired performativity, where the variation of information is conditioned to environmental, structural and mechanical constrains. This article reviews the idea of consciousness by programming materials and objects, that can be transformative and adaptive.

It was prepared using a systematic review of the literature through the Prisma method. Findings show that there is scarce scientific literature about lean construction contributions to activities related to the consumption phase of the life cycle of a building. Project and construction activities presented the highest number of lean construction contributions in the production phase. Research limitations are terms used in the search sentences and the choice of surveyed databases. The study contributes with knowledge that can be used by companies to adopt lean construction. It is also useful for researchers who can explore several research lines.
