The purpose of this article is to present the results of a research that was developed with eight... more The purpose of this article is to present the results of a research that was developed with eight groups of students of undergraduate programs of the Language Institute at Santiago de Cali University. The research was developed with four groups of students who used a mobile application developed jointly by foreign language professors, a software development professor and systems engineering students, as a support tool for individual practice of English level 1 (Test groups) and an equal number of groups of students who did not use the application (Control groups). No mobile applications already available in the market were used because none of them fit the sequence of topics that the course develops along the semester, thus, it was necessary to design an application tailored to the different themes, grammar and vocabulary requirements that were developed by the students. El proposito de este articulo es presentar los resultados obtenidos en una investigacion desarrol... more El proposito de este articulo es presentar los resultados obtenidos en una investigacion desarrollada en cuatro grupos de educacion en ingles adscritos al Departamento de Lenguas Extranjeras de la Facultad de Educacion y al Instituto de Idiomas de la Universidad Santiago de Cali. En ambas dependencias las evaluaciones tradicionalmente se han concebido como pruebas individualizadas que contemplan componentes de comprension auditiva, lectura y composicion escrita, y una variedad de ejercicios gramaticales y de uso del lenguaje. En cada caso, se trabajo con un grupo que presento las pruebas tradicionales (grupo de control) y otro con el cual se implemento un sistema inalambrico de respuesta para evaluar el componente de comprension auditiva, preguntas de contenido gramatical y de vocabulario (grupo de prueba), dejando mayor espacio para evaluar la comprension lectora y la composicion escrita.
