In these 10 years of experience, 50 trainees have completed a 12-month training combining on-line and in-person teaching and learning activities, with further support for maintaining contact via webmail and personal meetings. The network formed by faculty and former trainees has published extensively on issues relevant in the continent and has been instrumental in promoting new master level courses at different universities, drafting regulations and norms, and promoting the use of bioethical discourse in health care and research. Evaluation meetings have shown that while most trainees did benefit from the experience and contributed highly to developments at their home institutions and countries, some degree of structuring of demand for qualified personnel is needed in order to better utilize the human resources created by the program. Publications and other deliverables of trainees and faculty are presented.

The following problems are covered: integrity of publications, reporting of scientific research misconduct, definitions of research integrity, scientific ethical review committees functioning, international multi-centric clinical trials monitoring and norms for scientific integrity and ethical oversight.

It takes into consideration the role of bioethics in training in its transdisciplinary character.

Thus, these tumors appear to be characterized by a set of nonrandom deletions the incidence of which varies in tumors of different histological types. Most tumors were studied at advanced stages; therefore, essentially no data are available on the cytogenetic characteristics of the earliest stages of tumorigenesis. In contrast to the status of cytogenetic data, a large body of information on deletions at the molecular level assayed by the loss of heterozygosity analysis has accumulated over the same period. These data have been less complete than the cytogenetic data, although in cases such as colorectal carcinoma, genetic changes from the earliest to the most advanced stages have been studied in detail providing a genetic view of progression. Equally important...

Biopsies from testicular and extragonadal primary and metastatic lesions studied included all histological subtypes of germ cell tumors and cases of malignant transformation. Nonrandom numerical and structural chromosomal abnormalities including i(12p), the previously described characteristic marker of these tumors, were determined, and their frequency was compared between histological subtypes, between gonadal and extragonadal lesions, and between primary and transformed lesions. The frequency and copy number of i(12p) were found to be higher in nonseminomas compared with seminomas. Nonrandom sites of chromosome rearrangements associated with specific histologies comprised 1p32-36 and 7q11.2 in teratomas and 1p22 in yolk sac tumors. Some tumors that underwent malignant differentiation exhibited chromosome changes previo...

In addition, rearrangements involving 3p21, translocations among the D group chromosomes, and i(5p) were each observed in more than half of the cases. The overall
