This essay will focus on the domestic pressures that influence governments and their trade policies. The factors of production a given industry utilises, as well as the position of consumer or producer, affect interests towards either trade protectionism or liberalisation. Moreover, the institutional composition of a country's government is a determinant of trade politics, through the electoral system and whether democratic or non-democratic. Examining how these affect trade politics will provide an insight into the influence of domestic factors.
